Hockey Asia Cup 2017: Confident India thrash Bangladesh 7-0, how it happened

After India thrashed Japan 5-1 in their last encounter of Hockey Asia Cup, India faced hosts Bangladesh, thrashing them 7-0 in the second round to book a spot in the Super 4. The confident Indians dominated with more than 70% possession to continue their strong run in the tournament. Bangladesh, on the other hand, were a bunch of nerves after getting humiliated in the hands of Pakistan, going down 7-0. Here are the key highlights from the match:

FULL-TIME: The Indian hockey team dominated and oh how they dominated! After beating Japan 5-1, they went on to thrash the very hosts Bangladesh 7-0 in the second round of the Hockey Asia Cup. They held more than 70% possession of the game. With this India have confirmed their place in the Super 4. India now play Pakistan in the next match on Sunday.

1840 hrs IST: Few minutes to go before the final whistle. Both the teams eager for the game to end. India have asserted that they are in form and Bangladesh in need to introspect.

1830 hrs IST: Bangladesh’s challenge is not to score anymore but to ensure they do not concede. Bangladesh were defeated in their last game as well against Pakistan by 7-0. They need to go back and analyse where they are going wrong. India meanwhile look for further gaps to score.

1815 hrs IST: GOALS! India is back on fire in the fourth quarter. After a goalless third quarter, India send the ball in the right direction not once but twice. First, Ramandeep successfully converts the penalty corner after which Harmanpreet lost no time to score the seventh goal in favour of India. Bangladesh now trailing by seven goals.

1810 hrs IST: Bangladesh had a chance of a comeback. So close. But India’s defence is too good to give the hosts an opportunity to convert their chance

1800 hrs IST: And we are back for the third quarter. Are the tides going to change for the hosts or are India going to further demolish Bangladesh?

HALF-TIME: The end of two quarters and India have established that they are the better side. India lead the game 5-0 at half-time, not allowing the hosts any chance of a comeback. They have dominated in the game and scoring has been a cakewalk. The way they are going, it looks like they are going to embarrass Bangladesh even further.

1740 hrs IST: GOAL! There you go! With two minutes remaining in the second quarter, India smartly converted the penalty to make it 5-0. Harmanpreet helps extend India’s dominance.

1730 hrs IST: And second quarter is no different story for the dominant Indians. A stunning cross by Gurjant Singh and Amit Rohidas positions himself perfectly to give India further boost, taking the lead to 4-0.

1715 hrs IST: India started the game as expected. They dominated from the minute go, ending the first quarter with three goals. Gurjant, Akashdeep and Lalit Upadhyay scored for India in the first quarter.
