Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho has been carried off on a stretcher with his right leg in a brace during the first half of a Premier League match against Sunderland on Saturday.

The Brazil international writhed in pain after a challenge by Sunderland midfielder Didier Ndong and signaled to the bench before being taken off in the 34th minute of the game at Anfield.

The exact nature of Coutinho’s injury wasn’t immediately clear.

Coutinho has been one of Liverpool’s best players this season, helping the team to be in second place after 12 games.
