It would have been a huge sigh of relief that would have come out of Jose Mourinho if Manchester United had held on to the one goal that they had courtesy Juan Mata. But it was not to be as Old Trafford witnessed their defense being beaten once again by Olivier Giroud. To their credit, United did look like the better team for much of the match and they were controlling the flow of the game throughout the second half.

But leaving Olivier Giroud free in the box while a cross comes is something that would always lead to a goal and that is exactly what happened to Manchester United. Arsenal would certainly be the happier of the two sides with the scoreline .

FULL TIME!! Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal

Manchester United looked the stronger side for the better part of the match but letting Olivier Giroud even an inch of space in the box while a cross comes is a suicide mission. Jose Mourinho will certainly be pointing to the Valencia’s penalty appeal, amongst other things.

Arsenal move above Manchester City with this point. Wether they stay their or not will of course be decided by City’s visit to Selhurst Park later which is the next fixture.

A draw here means United are still two points behind the team above them, Tottenham Hotspur. This gap can increase if Spurs managed to get the better of West Ham later in the day, which very much seems a possibility. United also face the possibility of sliding down the table if Everton manage a win against today.

It does look like the draw will hurt United more than Arsenal.

GOAL!! Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal (Giroud 89′)

Its the substitutes who have combined for the Gunners. Oxlade Chamberlain whipped in a fantastic cross. Giroud towere above everyone else in the box and hammered the ball into the back of the net with his head. De Gea stood no chance. Old Trafford silenced

85′ gone Manchester United 1-0 Arsenal

Jose Mourinho lets Juan Mata have his applause as he subs him off for Morgan Schneiderlin. It is quite clear that Mourinho is looking to hold on to this scoreline and get those three points. IF the Swansea win stops his slide into the muck, three points here would help him get a few inches up.

It was a lovely goal from Mata but Nacho Monreal could have done a lot better in trying to restrict Herrera. Monreal has been ridfing his luck a little bit in the match, he was lucky that the referee didn’t decide to give the penalty in hte first half but, not so lucky this time.

GOAL!! Manchester United 1-0 Arsenal (Juan Mata 68′)

Wave after wave of United was testing the Arsenal defence. Valencia got a throw in from near the right wing that was pushed forward by Pogba. Herrera got to the ball and expertly put it into the box. Juan Mata latched onto it and made no mistake. Mourinho’s joy, Wenger’s misery.

60′ gone Manchester United 0-0 Arsenal

Not too much happening in the match right now. United have more of the possession and Arsenal are being consistently pushed back but United struggle to find a way through.

HALF TIME!! Manchester United 0-0 Arsenal

The big moment of the half would be Manchester United’s penalty appeal. Monreal did have a hand on Valencia’s back without being even close to the ball but the referee had a good view of the entire incident. Can’t really blame him for not giving it as Valencia did go down a bit too dramatically. Mourinho was jumping around on the touchline and it seems this would be something that will leave a scowl on his face.

36′ gone Two very good chances for Manchester United, the first was when Valencia managed to put the ball past Monreal and stormed into the box. Both the players went down and Old Trafford shouted for a spot kick.Replays show that it would have been a harsh penalty to give. Mata came inches wide of the goal once again just seconds later when he whipped in a shot from the edge of the box that was just about touched away by Cech.

30′ gone Darmian slid in on Alexis and was warned by the referee. The Italian is already booked and needs to be more careful. United held their breath for a moment whe Michale Carrick’s back pass was to David De Gea was almost intercepted.

25′ gone, Arsenal are controlling the ball more now but the game seems to have lost its pace for the moment. Matteo Darmian became the first man to be yellow carded in the match. Alexis Sanchez, meanwhile, is keeping the United defendors guessing with his agility.

20′ gone, Marcus Rashford whips in a venomous cross but Paul Pogba is unable to get to it. He would have been offside any way.

rohitmundayurie November 19, 20166:18 pm

15′: Paul Pogba whipped a ball in from the touchline that would have been at the back of the net had any United managed to get a foot in. But that came to nothing.
Before that, Theo Walcott pulled the ball back from the touchline to the middle but Manchester united cleared it before any Arsenal forward could get to it. The game has got a good pace about it now with Arsenal now controlling more of the ball than they did in the early minutes. Its still all square

5′ gone United 0-0 Arsenal

Juan Mata almost curled in a free-kick and missed it by the whiskers. Arsenal have never been behind on an away game this season in the first half. United, from the wqay they have started, seem to be determined to change that.

rohitmundayurie November 19, 20166:05 pm

Marcus Rashford sent a cross from the right aiming at the waiting Pogba. The ball was headed out of danger before the Frenchman could get to it.

Build Up

From the team line-up, it looks like Jose Mourinho will start Marcus Rashford as the most advanced player owing to the suspension to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo start at centre half predictably while United fasn will be happy with the return of Antonio Valencia.

Arsene Wenger has decided to gove Mohamed Elneny a start, possibly after the Egyptian’s performance at Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Burnley. Olivier Giroud is on the bench and Alexis Sanchez is the man playing in the number nine position which means Manchester United will have one less player to pay attention to while defending set pieces at least in the first half of the match.
