Diego Forlan’s penalty may have decided the match but there is no doubt that Mumbai City FC’s victory has to be attributed to a valiant all-round effort. NorthEast United didn’t make many mistakes and it was the strength of the Mumbai defence, lead by Krisztian Vadocz that has helped the side. The stadium seemed to be empty in the beginning but the home fans started streaming in. Towards the middle of the first-half they made a great atmosphere.

NorthEast United’s first defeat of the season has come against a side that has shown that they can be more than the underachievers that they have been in the last two seasons in the ISL. North East however, will be hoping for a better result when they face Pune City FC next.

92nd min. Mumbai City FC 1-0 NorthEast United

Approaching full time and Mumbai City FC’s Kristian Vadocz has been declared the player of the match. Mumbai’s defence has been brilliant today and Vadocz has been its leader. He has cuto out many-a-chance for the visitors and he deserves credit for Mumbai’s victory, which looks more likely with every second.

85th min. Mumbai City FC 1-0 NorthEast United

NorthEast United’s Emiliano Alfaro has been the man who has troubled the Mumbai defence the most in this match. in the 82nd minute he did so again and his ball was from the left flank was cut away by the Mumbai centre backs. A visibly famished Diego Forlan has been substituted for Boithang Haokip

80 mins. Mumbai City FC 1-0 NorthEast United

North East are creating more chances now but Mumbai are holding on. The best came from Holicharan Narzary who whipped a curler in from the right flank. The ball just about missed the top corner on the near side and went out for a goal kick.

70 mins gone Mumbai City FC 1-0 NorthEast United FC

The visitors are trying to break the Mumbai defence but the home-side are making sure that the visitors are not letting anything through. As it stands, Mumbai might just be level with NorthEast on the league table. They do deserve it from what we have seen so far with the defenders covering well for any ball that may have leaked through the midfield.

GOAL!! Diego Forlan 56th min. Mumbai City FC 1-0 NorthEast United FC

A penalty for Mumbai City FC with the smallest of margins. The foul was committed inside the box but only just. For Mumbai City FC to be taken by Diego Forlan who made no mistakes, Subrata Paul did dive the right way, but there is only little that a keeper can do when the penalty kick is placed so well into the top corner.

50 mins gone Mumbai City FC 0-0 NorthEast United

The script is similar for the second half so far with Mumbai just quickening the pace of their attacks and NorthEast having to wait for an odd opportunity to punce on the home side. Matias Defederico had created a good chance when he dribbled into the box and attempted to put a through ball for Forlan but the it rolled outside for a goal kick.

HALF TIME!! Mumbai City FC 0-0 North East United FC

Two very good chances just before the halfway mark for the visitors in the form of katsumi Yusa’s skied shot and another just before the referee blew the whistle for Defederico. The shot forced a corner that NorthEast couldn’t take advantage of. It is fair to say that Mumbai City FC are very much ready for the challenge and have troubled the NorthEast defence more than once. The visitors upped the ante towards the end but they will have to work hard in the second half to not just find a goal but also to prevent conceding one considering Mumbai’s high pressing style of play. The quality of football from both teams have been high but amongst the two goalkeepers, it NorthEast’s Subrata Paul has had to show his mettle more often than his counterpart at the other end.

40 mins gone Mumbai City FC 0-0 North East United

Approaching half-time and NorthEast had a golden opportunity when Katsumi Yusa found himself one on one with the goalkeeper in the box. Yet, at the vital moment, he lost balance and skied the shot and thereby, let go one of the best chances that the visitors have had in the match so far.

30mins Mumbai City FC 0-0 NorthEast United

If anyone thought that the stadium looks a bit too empty, it seems to have filled up considerably. Its nowhere close to the crowds witnessed in NorthEast’s home ground or at Kochi in Kerala Blaster’s game but it is making the right amount of noise. Also, the size of stadium allows one to get a vantage point from the many buildings surrounding the stadium

18th minute CHANCE!!

Subrata Paul showing what he is made off when he made a sensational diving save to his right and preventing a shot dispatched by the Mumbai City forward.

14th minute CHANCE!

NorthEast United’s Romaric whipped in a volley from outside the box. The shot carried some venom and was moving swiftly to the goalkeeper’s left who was forced to make a fantastic diving save. Still all-square in Mumbai

10 mins gone Mumbai City FC 0-0 NorthEast United

Mumbai City FC have take to pressing high up the NorthEast United half and it is the home side that have forced more corners so far in the match. But it is still early to say which team truly looks better. Lets wait and watch.

And we have kicked off at the Mumbai Football Arena and it is the home side that have started the match. Another subtext to the game that we missed earlier is the return of Subrata Paul to face off against his old side. Diego Forlan showed that he has still got it when he made room for himself to whip in a shot that ended up in Paul’s hands.

The team squads are out!!

Mumbai City FC are playing for the very first time in their new home turf, the Mumbai Football Arena located within the Andheri Sports Complex. They have an even more daunting task of facing NorthEast United, who with 2 wins from 2 games sit on top of the table. Mumbai City are playing their second game of the season and a win here will help them jump two places to second spot and level on points with NorthEast. The Mumbai crowd are a passionate lot and NorthEast will certainly be missing their raucous home crowd. All eyes will once again be on Diego Forlan who is expected to start the game.
