Kerala Blasters were the team who made mroe istakes and they paid for it. Delhi Dynamos stepped up their game in the second half. Thie first goal, came off a defensive error but the second was the result of a good lethal attack from Delhi Dynamos. Marcelinho is proving that he could be a force to reckon with in this league. He and Kean Lewis caused all sorts of trouble for the Kerala defenders down the flanks.

Other than a few chances in between, Kerala never really looked like they were in the game. With this victory, Delhi Dynamos have got their first home win of the season and, more importantly, go top of the ever-changing ISL table.

Delhi Dynamos are yet to win a match at home in the Hero Indian Super League but given their attacking strength coach Gianluca Zambrotta will be confident that his team can break the duck against Kerala Blasters at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi, on Friday.

Delhi Dynamos have drawn all their three matches at home and now face Kerala Blasters, who have the best defensive record in the league. Delhi, however, have strengths of their own, notably their strike-force which has scored 10 goals, the maximum by any team.

“We know perfectly that Kerala is a difficult team. They are a good side, they win, they fight. It’s difficult for us but we are ready for this game,” said Zambrotta, whose team has 44 shots on target, the most by a team this season.

Delhi will be confident of continuing with their winning run after putting it across FC Goa in the last game. Marcelinho and Richard Gadze scored in the second session to give Delhi a comfortable 2-0 victory but Zambrotta has asked his players not to rest on their laurels.

“It was a difficult match. It’s important to forget what happened against Goa. We won but now we have to focus on this match and it’s important to win,” said the Italian World Cup winner.

Kerala Blasters are currently on a five-match unbeaten streak, and should Kerala avoid defeat against Delhi Dynamos, this will become their longest unbeaten run (six matches) in the ISL. The visitors have nine points from seven matches and this is their best start to an ISL campaign.

The worry for Kerala though is the lack of goals and coach Steve Coppell said his team was working hard to ensure they have enough goals to sail through.

“There is no real formula for success. In the first year, Kerala got to the final scoring only nine goals. We are not trying to emulate that; we are trying to score as many as possible. Last year, Kerala scored 20 goals and finished at the bottom! It just shows that a better balance is needed,” said Coppell.

The ISL has reached the half-way stage and Coppell felt the league will now open up a little bit more as teams, battling for a place in the semi-finals, will take more risks.

“May be in the first half of the season people were more frightened of losing and in the second half, people realise they have to win to get to the play-offs. There will be change of emphasis as each game goes towards the end of season: The league will open up a little bit more with each game,” said the Kerala coach.

A win for Delhi Dynamos will take them to the top of the table for the first time while Kerala Blasters will move to the top four for the first time since losing two matches in a row at the start of the league.

Kerala on the offensive straightaway. Belfort collected the ball from a corner that was defended by Delhi Dynamos. He dribbled past two defendors to make it clear on goal but his shot was blocked off by a defender who caught up with him just in time.

Delhi were trying to manage a counter attack, there was a pull on Gadze but the referee let the play go on. He finally had to call the foul when Delhi lost the ball. Florent Malouda made an attempt on goal from the free kick which was a good 30 yards out and the ball went flying over the crossbar.

15′ gone Delhi Dynamos 0-0 Kerala Blasters

A frantic passage of play. First Kerala broke free and almost caught the home side on the counter. It led to three passes inside the box and all three times, a chance for a shot was blocked off by either the goalkeeper or a defendor. Delhi scrambled it out of the way and launched a counter themselves. The ball got into the box and some desperate defending from Kerala ensured that the game remained goalless.

25’gone Delhi Dynamos 0-0 Kerala Blasters

Delhi and Kerala are competing for the ball on an equal footing here. Kerala certainly have been the more dominant of the two. Delhi have looked threatening whenever the two wide men, Marcelihno and Kean Lewis are on the ball. Both have deceived the defendors with deft touches to take down the long balls and launch a attack with them.

Kerala caught napping and almost punished for it. It was a routine throw in near the goal at the right. Marcelinho passed into the box and kept running. Gadze just pushed it back into his path and Marcelinho took the shot that just about missed the goal post. The Kerala defenders were standing with their mouths open, seemingly wondering how the ball got there so fast from the touchline.

HALF-TIME! Delhi Dynamos 0-0 Kerala Blasters

More often than not, chances have come from defensive lapses and mistakes than good buildup play. The best chance for Kerala came a few minutes before half time when Kervens Belfort lopped a ball into the box. The ball seemed to be a harmless one until Didier Kadio directed it towards goal with a thunderous diving header. Doblas was caught unawares and made a dive that would have been a ta bit too late. He was saved by the shot not being on target.

55′ gone Delhi Dynamos 0-0 Kerala Blasters

It has been a stop and start half so far with the a lot on 50-50s happening and not much quality to be seen on the pitch, unlike the first half when Marcelinho and Kean Lewis were turning it on. Gadze found the back of the net but was well off-side. No goals to report so far.

GOAL! Delhi Dynamos 1-0 Kerala Blasters (Kean Lewis 44′)

The teams have been banking on each others mistakes to make attacks and so the goal had to come from one such mistake. Kerala goalkeeper Sandip Nandy took the ball down with a horrific touch that almost let the ball lose. Credit to Gadze who came chasing in and made sure that

GOAL! Delhi Dynamos 2-0 Kerala Blasters (Marcelinho 60′)

Marcelinho with a beautiful header that took it past the hapless Sandip Nandy. This one for a change was not Delhi capitilising on a Kerala defensive error but a good counter attack from the home side. Delhi have score two goals in fove minutes now and that certainly is one of the sweetest headers you get to see in the sport.

Credit to Gadze who came chasing in and made sure that he got the ball from the goalkeepe. Kerala defendors came rushing back to correct the others and partly succeeded as they didn’t let Gadze score. But he found Kean Lewis who made no mistake in tucking the ball into the back of the net.

GOAL! Delhi Dynamos 2-0 Kerala Blasters (Marcelinho 60′)

This one for a change was not Delhi capitilising on a Kerala defensive error but a good counter attack from the home side. Delhi have score two goals in fove minutes now and that certainly is one of the sweetest headers you get to see in the sport. Kean Lewis and Marcelinho have been the biggest attacking threats for Delhi in this match and it is them who have scored for the home side.

70′ gone Delhi Dynamos 2-0 Kerala Blasters

Kerala defense is looking fragile to say the least right now and could have easily gone three down. Marcelinho made an in road through the right and took a shot that forced a diving save from the goalkeeper. The ball rebounded to the path of Gadze who booted the ball over the crossbar. Kerala already have a mountain of a task, that would have become an endless, barren wall if Gadze had found the back of the net.

75′ Gone Delhi Dynamos 2-0 Kerala Blasters

Kerala finally seem to be coming to terms with the fact that they are two goals down but Delhi have found their rhythm. Kerala in the meanwhile have failed to capitalise from a corner and that triggered a counter attack. Marcelinho got the ball to the other side within a matter of seconds with the Kerala defenders scrambling to catch up and took the shot that the goalkeeper saved.

rohitmundayurie November 4, 20168:40 pm

80′ gone Delhi Dynamos 2-0 Kerala Blasters

Delhi Dynamos are in full flow and we have seen some genuinely good passing play since they have gone ahead, which has been something of a rarity in the ISL. Kerala Blasters have been guilty of giving away the ball at all the wrong places. Indeed, they have given the ball away through stupid passes on every part of the pitch in this match. Delhi were guilty of the same in the first half, but there is only one team that looked they could score in the game in this second half and that is the team in front.

rohitmundayurie November 4, 20168:52 pm

FULL TIME! Delhi Dynamos 2-0 Kerala Blasters

You have to sympathize with Kerala Blasters, they have been on the road for a long time and that might just have shown here with players looking unfocused and fatigued. There were just too many misplaced passes from Kerala and that had to be capitalised by Delhi at some point. It could have been far worse for Kerala considering the number of chances that Delhi had they had just after the second goal went in.
