Delhi Dynamos were two different sides in the two halves of the match. While in the first half they were wasteful and couldn’t get any co ordination going in the final third, they were right the opposite in the second. Marcelinho’s frightful consistency in front of goal was on full display when he found the back of the net with three clinical finishes.

FC Goa made the mistake of making a sloppy start to the second half and paid the price. They were left wondering what had happened in the 60th minute when the scoreline went from 1-1 to 5-1 against them within the span of fiftheen minutes. They now have one last home game against an equally beleaguered Chennaiyin FC.

Build Up

For now this will be the last time that Delhi Dynamos will be playing at home. Delhi Dynamos coach Gianluca Zambrotta is aware that it would be foolish to ignore FC Goa’s challenge in their quest for a semi-final berth just because they are at the bottom in Hero Indian Super League.

Delhi Dynamos were the most impressive side in the first phase of ISL but with three matches left to be played, they are placed fourth with 17 points from 11 matches and need a win against FC Goa to boost their confidence at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi, on Sunday.

“If we win this game then Delhi will be in a good position to qualify for play-offs. I am not getting into the mathematical calculations, just preparing for this match and trying to win. Like always, we will strive to win,” said Zambrotta during the pre-match media interaction.

Delhi Dynamos have been strong at home this season and are the only side not to lose a home game. They were winless at home in their first three matches but Zambrotta’s side eventually gained momentum, winning two of their next three matches. The clash against FC Goa will be the last home game in the league stage for Delhi and Zambrotta knows his side must remain focused.

“At the moment, this is one of the most difficult game for us. It will be a mistake to think they are last. That will be a bad attitude. The players must stay focused and determined,” said Zambrotta, who still has to play two more away games against NorthEast United FC and Mumbai City FC.

FC Goa can mathematically still qualify for the semi-finals but the Goans have only a 0.001 percent chance of qualification. FC Goa coach Zico has already given up on his team’s chances after the 1-2 loss against Atletico de Kolkata at home but the Brazil legend said his players will approach the match with the same intensity.

“We have to play with the same intensity. We are professionals. When we go on the pitch, we must respect the jersey, the fans and the honour of our owner. I learnt this when I started playing football. We have to honour the jersey, always. We will give hundred percent,” said Zico.

FC Goa had lost 0-2 against Delhi at home and will again remain underdogs in the away clash. They have been poor defensively but have a healthy away record compared to their home performances, after scoring seven of their 11 points away and keeping two of their three clean sheets when playing away from home.

“This match is a different story. When we played Delhi (in our home match), we had to fight for points and take more risks. We don’t need to take risks now. The only difference is that we will field only those players who are hundred percent fit. The last game was very tiring,” said Zico.

Here are the starting XIs:

10′ gone Delhi 0-0 Goa

Marcelinho took the ball and ran down the right into the box. He skipped past three Goa defenders and took the shot but the angle was too tight and the ball hits the side netting. He probably could have passed to Gadze who had got into a good position in the middle.

15′ gone Delhi 0-0 FC Goa

Delhi Dynamos are surprisingly not really getting together on the attack and are hence unable to go ahead. Malouda turned and ran into space and took the hot from an audacious distance. Moments later, he made a pass down the left of the field to Gadze who couldn’t read it ran to the right, thus wasting the opportunity

20′ gone, Delhi 0-0 FC Goa

Marcelinho took a free kick that was directed to the goalkeeper’s left. He didn’t have to move too much and easily caught the ball. FC Goa had their chance to attack after that with Tavora running into space in the middle and taking the shot. The ball was padded out by the Delhi keeper

25′ gone Delhi Dynamos 0-0 FC Goa

Delhi Dynamos have had a few chance so far and haven’t been able to capitalise on any of them. They haven’t shown the urgency of a team that knows that they have to win the match, which is quite surprising considering the way they have played in their recent outings. Goa have been impressive so far.

GOAL!! Delhi Dynamos 0-1 FC Goa (Fulganco Cardozo 31′)

Julio Cesar made a great run into the box that got the goalkeeper out of position. Cesar took the shot from a tight angle and the goalkeeper took the sting out of it but it rolled on and Fulganco had to only tap into an empty net. Delhi pay the price for missed chances and Goa make the most of their first.

GOAL!! Delhi Dynamos 1-1 FC Goa (Marcelinho 37′)

It was a free kick that Malouda took, he only rolled it down the left, Marcelinho had already made a run in the direction and reached to the ball at the perfect time. It only needed spme good finishing as the entire Goa defence was taken by surprise and Marcelinho made no mistake. This is what one has come to expect from Delhi Dynamos this season

HALF TIME!! Delhi Dynamos 1-1 FC Goa

Delhi Dynamos responded well to conceding the goal and Marcelinho’s equaliser was certainly one of the best moves of the tournament. But they have to avoid slipping up in the second half and ensure that they try not to waste chances the way they did in the first half

GOAL!! Delhi Dynamos 2-1 FC Goa (Marcelinho 48′)

You give him that much space and he will punish you. Marcelinho ran into space after taking down a throw in and whipped in a shot, the goalkeeper didnt have the chance to come across, ball hits the far post and goes in.

GOAL Delhi Dynamos 3-1 FC Goa (Gadze 51′)

Marcelinho threaded a ball through and Gadze’s pace caught Goa out. He still had to do a lot to mdi and it was a good finish in the end

rohitmundayurie November 27, 20168:16 pm

GOAL!! Delhi 4-1 Goa (Marcelinho 55′)

Goa just not being able to handle it as Delhi just rains it in from the right hand flank. marcelinho gets his hat trick

rohitmundayurie November 27, 20168:16 pm

GOAL!! Delhi 5-1 Goa (Gadze 57′)

This is an absolute annihilation. Goa has conceded three goals in seven minutes. Gadze is the man who punishes them again. If Delhi were wasteful in the first half, they have been ruthless in the second

GOAL!! Delhi Dynamos 4-1 FC Goa (Marcelinho 55′)

Goa just not being able to handle it as Delhi just rains it in from the right hand flank. Marcelinho gets his hat trick

GOAL!! Delhi Dynamos 5-1 FC Goa (Gadze 57′)

This is an absolute annihilation. Goa has conceded three goals in seven minutes. Gadze is the man who punishes them again. If Delhi were wasteful in the first half, they have been ruthless in the second

rohitmundayurie November 27, 20168:30 pm

68′ gone To say Delhi Dynamos have taken the game by the scruff of the neck is an understatement. An annihilation of this kind is something we have never seen in the ISL. Richard Gadze has scored twice and is now being replaced. He seems to have picked a niggle and is holding his back as he walks off but gets a rousing ovation from the crwod.

rohitmundayurie November 27, 20168:38 pm

75′ gone Delhi Dynamos 5-1 FC Goa

The game seems to have slowed down a bit after the madness of the initial minutes of the second half. FC Goa are not even making any attempts to attack and you can’t blame them if they have lost any motivation they had to try and stage an upset in this match. Delhi are cruising and this win means that they will go second in the table with a goal difference superior to everyone in the league.

rohitmundayurie November 27, 20168:44 pm

81′ Delhi Dynamos 5-1 FC Goa

Marcelinho is being subbed off to rapturous applause from the home crowd. What an unbelieveable night it has been for him and he now leads the ISL goalscorer standings comfortably. It will take some doing to topple him from there now.

rohitmundayurie November 27, 20168:51 pm

85′ gone Delhi Dynamos 5-1 FC Goa

Kean Lewis tried to get into the party but his shot is just wide. The game is coming to a close and since the first goal went in, there haven’t been many chances since that fifth goal went in for Delhi. Goa just waiting for the final whistle

rohitmundayurie November 27, 20168:54 pm

FULL TIME!! Delhi Dynamos 5-1 FC Goa

The nightmare has finally ended for FC Goa. Delhi Dynamos were absolutely ruthless and they punished FC Goa for being slippy. In the end, they have shown why it is that they have gained the reputatuion of being one of the most dangerous attacking sides in ISL 2016.
