Southampton manager Claude Puel had his first Premier League victory on Sunday as Charlie Austin again found the net for a 1-0 victory over Swansea.
Substitute Austin followed up his two goals against Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday with the winner in a tense match at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Southampton dominated throughout but was regularly frustrated by poor finishing and stubborn defending.
But in the 64th minute, the Saints’ luck changed when Austin was able to control the ball with his chest, before firing the ball high into the net past Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.
Swansea struggled to make any leeway in the match, Gylfi Sigurdsson having its best chance late in the match.
Southampton has 5 points, with Swansea on 4. Both have played five matches.
