India registered an emphatic win by an innings and 92 runs over West Indies at Antigua in the first Test of the 4-match series. Riding on Virat Kohli’s scintillating knock of 200 runs in the first innings, the visitors registered a mammoth 566/8 and later dismantled West Indies lineup for 243 and 231 runs in first and second innings respectively.

Where in the first innings, Indian seam bowlers emerged as a nightmare for the hosts, it was R. Ashwin’s spin web that ripped apart West Indies batting in the second.

His hundred in the first innings and figures of 7/83 in the second earned him Man of the match award.

Though, it was Ashwin who grabbed the MoM but Kohli’s double hundred played an equally important role in setting up India’s victory and gathered praises from all around.

Mali Richards joined his father Viv Richards in praising India Test skipper Kohli for his maiden double ton.

Junior Richards gifted Virat a painting that captured a moment from his record innings in the first Test match.

Richards junior went to the team hotel to meet Kohli and present a painting made by him and his artist friend.

“We decided to commemorate his maiden double hundred as he registered the milestone here in Antigua. We prepared the entire painting in just one day and came here to present it to him,” Richards told ‘BCCI.TV’.

Earlier Richards had termed Kohli’s double as “magnificent” and a “classy Knock”.

“I think it was a magnificent hundred. To score a double hundred at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground is a formidable task in terms of what he has achieved. As a batsman myself, it was very pleasing to see and even though it was against the West Indies, I do appreciate seeing class and his was a classy
knock.”

India will now meet West Indies in Kingston on July 31.
