Ahead of the long home season of Test cricket, captain Virat Kohli is busy in preparation for the New Zealand series in a special way and not on the ground. The right-hander has been working out at his gym.
The India Test captain gave a sneak peak into his morning cardio session with a video on his Instagram account. The session is on two different gym equipment with Kohli also given out details of the session.
Kohli said that he begins the training with a 15-minute session on his bike at level three maintaining a RPM of 120 throughout and then moves on to the treadmill without any break. On the treadmill, he does 10 strides of 20 seconds each and takes only a 10 second break between each stride. That is to catch the breath back. The 10 stride on the treadmill, Kohli wrote are back to back at a speed of 19 km/hr and on a level 1 incline.
This may sound quiet easy for any regular gym person but what made this session difficult, according to Kohli, was the high altitude mask. The mask makes it “twice as hard.”
Kohli also wished everyone an active and a healthy day and asked everyone to “train hard, train smart.”
“Sneak peek into my morning cardio session. 15 minutes on the bike at level 3 maintaining an rpm of 120 throughout then straight onto the treadmill for 10 strides of 20 seconds each and step on the sides for 10 seconds rest inbetween. 10 of these back to back at a speed of 19 km/hr and level 1 on incline. All of this using the altitude training mask which makes it twice as hard. Train hard train smart. Wish everyone a active and healthy day.” Kohli wrote with the Instagram video.
The first Test against New Zealand begins on September 22 in Kanpur.
