The Indian squad for the three-match test series against New Zealand arrived in Kanpur, the venue of the first test. Captain Virat Kohli was evidently upbeat about finally getting back into the national setup and took to social media to express his happiness.

Kohli uploaded an image of himself in the team bus with the rest of the team. “Back to the team bus and the numerous times we have lots of fun in here. Some of the best memories and jokes are courtesy the team bus,” said his caption.

Kohli and India start their first Test match against New Zealand on Thursday, September 22 at Kanpur’s Green Park stadium. The Test series will be followed by a five-match one day international series in which Kohli will be passing the captain’s responsibility to MS Dhoni.

The Indian squad for the Test series remains almost unchanged from the one that played against West Indies in August. Kohli is set to lead India in 13 Test matches to be played at home between September and February.

New Zealand are currently playing Mumbai in a warm-up game in the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson had said that he had “learnt watching Kohli.” Despite being considered one of the world’s best batsmen himself, Williamson said that Kohli is “a great player and his ability to dominate attacks through all three formats is very special.”

Following the Kanpur Test, the two teams travel to the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata for the second match. The third Test would be played in Holkar Stadium, Indore. It will be the very first time that a Test match would be hosted in the city.
