Besides motivating the players and looking after day-to-day affairs of the Indian team, Ravi Shastri will be filing a detailed report to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that could very well decide the fate of a few individuals.

Following the humiliation in the Test series against England, the BCCI para-dropped Shastri as Indian team director. It had also asked bowling coach Joe Dawes and fielding coach Trevor Penny to step aside and appointed Sanjay Bangar, B Arun and R Sridhar as the new support staff.

Report key

“Shastri’s report will be key because he will be submitting everything in detail. From Duncan Fletcher’s role to MS Dhoni’s captaincy. What is the mood in the team and what more can be done to get a better result. We are hoping for an honest view from Shastri and you can say the future of a few individuals will depend on Shastri’s report,” a BCCI official said.

We have seen and heard about the impact Ravi Shastri is having on the players and the inspiration and confidence he has brought to the players. As to his giving an honest and independent report, one can confirm that he is keeping a watchful eye on the proceedings, is not asking for or listening to anyone's opinion and most importantly he has not seen or read even one news paper comment or report ever since he took on this role. Even those close to him have no clue what he is likely to say. His focus is entirely on getting this young team to believe in themselves and express well on the pitch and see a successful end to the tour. Great opportunity but immense responsibility that only someone like Ravi can handle.

Mr.Gowri Shankar, it looks like you are a bit off the mark as far as the current senario of the BCCI is concerned. For all practical purposes, a gentelman called N.Srinivasan still continues to be the boss of the BCCI & Ravi Shastri a close confident of Srinivasan & direct appointee of him. Shastri will not under any cirstances make note of or report anything against Dhoni & company, who play more & bettet for their respective IPL Teams than for India in Tests, for obvious reasons. There is no denying the fact that India lost the Test series so meakly, primarily because of Dhoni's unimaginative & ultra defencive capataincy rather than anything else. And if you think that Shastri would give any adverse report against Dhoni then you are totally mistaken, asBCCI all I.e, Srinivas, Shastri, Dhoni & the defacto BCCI President, Shivlal Yadav are sailing in the same boat to the same destination & goal and that is of making fool of millions of cricket fans accross India, who continue to think that something good is going to happen to Indian Cricket at the beheast of orders of the Supreme Court of India.

Shastr is the right guy to steer the Indian team at a time when it is floundering in heavy waters. He is the "in your face" typeof guy. The 'NOW" types. I still remember him rushing down to confront the ICC guys who were trying to justify banning Sachin Tendulkar on some ridiculous excuse many many years ago in South Africa. He but nobody had to the guts. A no-nonsense man. Go for it Ravi

Is Shastri a fit cricket administrator for the Indian side on field? Has he demonstrated anytime before that he is a capable cricket administrator? We do not want to be disappointed as cricket enthusiasts. During his cricketing days, he tortured us with his lack lustre performance and was a great disappointment although he received great and biased support from Gavaskar because they are both from Bombay. Let us be clear about one thing. Dhoni is a match winner and has demonstrated this time and again unlike Shastri who was very mediocre performer and was never a match winner. So BCCI should be careful not to disturb the apple cart as the combination of Dhoni and Fletcher has produced excellent results. Build on the success that has been demonstrated already and not on mediocrity of Shastri.S. GowrishankarBahain
