Sachin Tendulkar welcomed Jonty Rhodes at his residence as the former South African cricket star paid him a visit on the occassion of Ganesh Chaturthi. Tendulkar had on Monday put out a tweet in which he welcomed an idol of Lord Ganesha to his home. Yuvraj Singh, who himself has kept a Ganesha idol at has residence, was present on the occasion.
Rhodes, who was renowned for his abilities in fielding was the fielding coach of the Indian Premier League team Mumbai Indians when Sachin Tendulkar was their captain. Besides this the two have faced-off on numerous occasions in their respective illustrious careers. Rhodes is regarded as one of the best fielders of his generation and was especially noted for his catching, ground fielding, and throwing from his most common position of backward point.
He retired from cricket in 2003 and has since worn many hats including that of an account executive in South Africa-based Standard bank. He is still involved in the bank’s cricket sponsorship in the country. In cricket post-retirement, he is the fielding coach of Mumbai Indians and the South African cricket team.
Sachin Tendulkar and Rhodes share a cordial relationship with each other. Rhodes has always embraced Indian culture, even naming his daughter ‘India’ and performing a puja for her in a temple in Santacruz, Mumbai. “I have spent a lot of time here. What I love about India is that it’s a rich mix of culture, heritage and tradition,” he had once said when asked about his affection for Indian culture.
