Ranji Trophy: Andhra Pradesh close in on outright win against Kerala

Andhra require another 163 runs on the final day with all 10 wickets remaining to win against Kerala.

Andhra raised hopes of an outright win after staging a fightback by ending Kerala’s second innings at 129 in their Group C Ranji Trophy match.

By stumps on the third and penultimate day at Dr PVG Raju ACA Sports Complex, Andhra cruised to 55 for no loss in just eight overs, requiring another 163 runs to bag six points with all 10 wickets remaining.

Srikar Bharat was batting on a 28-ball 41 with the help of five fours and two sixes, while Prasanth Kumar was giving
him company on 13 at close of play.

Medium pacer Paidikalva Vijaykumar was the wrecker in chief for hosts Andhra, returning impressive figures of 5/33 after running through the Kerala line-up.

K B Pawan was the top-scorer for Kerala with 34 even as none of the batsmen managed to build a decent score. The
visitors lost wickets at regular intervals to be bundled out in 78.1 overs.

On the second day, Kerala had dismissed Andhra for 141 in their first innings.

Hyderabad-Goa match headed for a draw

Left-handed Sagun Kamat missed a century by three runs as Goa posted 238 for the loss of six wickets in their first innings in reply to Hyderabad’s mammoth 568 for seven declared on the third and penultimate day of a Group C Ranji Trophy match.

Kamat hit a patient 97-run knock off 215 balls during which he struck 12 boundaries and a six to hold on to Goa’s
innings.

At stumps on Day 3, Saurabh Bandekar was batting on 24 while giving him company at the other end was Shadab Jakati on eight.

Brief Scores: Hyderabad 1st innings: 568 for seven decl in 180 overs (Hanuma Vihari 179, Tanmay Agarwal 135, Syed Qadri 115 not out; Saurabh Bandekar 3/115). Goa 1st innings: 238 for six in 90 overs (Sagun Kamat 97, Keenan Vaz 45; M Ravi Kiran 2/24).

Assam make solid start to 2nd innings

Pallavkumar Das and Sibsankar Roy struck half centuries as Assam made a solid start to their second innings in their Group C Ranji Trophy match against Jharkhand.

At stumps on the third and penultimate day at the Nehru Stadium, Assam were 157/2 in 63 overs with Das and Roy batting on 75 and 60 respectively.

Earlier, resuming on their overnight score of 196/4, Jharkhand were all out for 217 in 86.3 overs with the team’s lower- order batting coming a cropper.

Tripura vs Services heads towards a draw

Tripura produced a solid batting display to pile on 430 all out in their first innings as their Ranji Trophy match against Services headed towards a draw on the third and penultimate day.

After Yogesh Takawale’s fine 89 on Monday, captain Rajesh Banik and Kaushal Acharjee hit 93 and 83 respectively to take Tripura to a big score as they added 163 runs today from 54 overs after resuming at overnight 267 for 5 at the Palam A Ground.

In reply, Services were 10 for no loss from 7.1 overs. Pratik Desai (10) and Soumik Chatterjee (0) were batting at the draw of stumps.

With just one day remaining, the match is set to end with a draw after the first day was washed out due to rains.
