Bangladesh’s 100th Test  is turning out to be another difficult one for the visitors. They struck up partnerships but all of them broke down whenever it looked like having the potential to becoming a big one. Dinesh Chandimal did well to take Sri Lanka out of a sticky situation earlier in the day and the hosts must be recognising the value of his runs only now with Bangladesh reaching where they have on stumps.

Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh second Test, Day 2 Highlights:

1742 hrs IST: At stumps on Day 2, Bangaldesh are 214/5, need 124 to win with five wickets remaining. Bangladesh have provided resistance but Sri Lanka have dented their chances of taking a big lead on Day 3 by taking wickets at regular intervals. Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib al Hasan, the two seniors of the Bangladesh team are at the crease and the visitors will need them to strike up a big partnership on Day 3 so as to give Bangladesh some hope of redemption in the series.

1636 hrs IST: Imrul Kayes was dropped by Dinesh Chandimal at deep square leg. This is turning out to be another good stand for Bangladesh. It may not have too much runs in it, 42 runs so far, but they have weathered out the likes of Sandakan, Herath and Perera. Lakmal has now been brought back into the attack.

1621 hrs IST: Imrul Kayes and Sabbir Rahman are keeping themselves afloat. Rahman is playing the role of the aggressor and has hit two fours so far in his innings. Bangladesh are 156/2, trailing 182 runs with eight wickets in hand.

1549 hrs IST: GONE! Soumya Sarkar 61, b Sandakan, Bangladesh 130/2. Sarkar had just hit him for a four in the earlier ball. Sandakan gives this one flight and it beats the inside edge before crashing on to the stumps.

1538 hrs IST: The steady flow of runs have stopped somewhat for Bangladesh and they have managed only two runs in the last three overs. Lakshan Sandakan’s last over went for a maiden. Sri Lanka desperately need a wicket.

1532 hrs IST: Soumya Sarkar and Imrul Kayes have put on 25 runs for the second wicket. Bangladesh now trail Sri Lanka by 218 runs as Dilruwan Perera comes into the attack.

1514 hrs IST: Soumya Sarkar reaches his third Test fifty! Bangladesh are going well at the moment and Sarkar and Kayes have somewhat softened the blow that was caused by the wicket of Tamim Iqbal. Will they make this 100th Test a special one for their country?

1507 hrs IST: Bangladesh have crossed the 100-run mark. Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar provided a solid opening partnership of 95 runs before Rangana Herath got the wicket of the former. The original decision was not out but Sri Lanka went for the review. There was no inside edge and the ball was hitting middle and leg. Aleem Dar’s decision is overruled and Sri Lanka had their breakthrough, the skipper providing it once again. Bangladesh are still in a good position, trailing Sri Lanka by 237 runs with nine wickets remaining.

1350 hrs IST: Visitors have slowed things down considerably. 39/0 after 15 overs. Tamim on 20 and Soumya on 15.

1331 hrs IST: Bangladesh continue without hurting themselves and that’s something they need to do if they want to equalise this series. Rangana Herath comes in to bowl and things could change for the hosts under the skipper

1315 hrs IST: Bangladesh’s effort underway. They need to bat without any mistakes, somehow match or come close to Sri Lanka’s 338 on this difficult surface. Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar open the innings. Perera and Lakmal with the ball

1216 hrs IST: GONE! Lakmal went for a pull but he went too early on it and Subashis celebrates. The ball lobs to the third man fielder which is Soumya Sarkar and it is comfortably taken. Good effort by even the lower order to pile on the runs and continue this frustrating series for the visitors. Sri Lanka are then bowled out for 338 and with that, it is lunch!

1206 hrs IST: Lakmal is belting absolutely massive blows. Mehedi Hasan at the receiving end of this demolition. Four, six and four in the over. Sweetly struck shots and Sri Lanka are 335/9. Lakmal gets his highest Test score

1201 hrs IST: With the final wicket in play, we don’t go for lunch. Officially into the extra half hour. If wicket falls, we will immediately go for the break. Unless they bat through these 30 mins.

1200 hrs IST: DROPPED! Mustafizur drops one at midwicket and Sandakan survives. In the air for a while, the Bangladesh player dived full length to his right but couldn’t hold on.

1142 hrs IST: GONE! But on his 300th ball, Dinesh Chandimal exits the middle. Tries to go for a big hit over midwicket but fails to time it properly and ends up finding Mosaddek. Mehedi strikes. Chandimal walks off to a loud reception after a brilliant knock.

1141 hrs IST: Sri Lanka are into the 300s and the partnership is worth over 50 runs. Lakmal with 7 runs scored from 19 balls. Chandimal continues to bat defiantly as he moves to 138.

1126 hrs IST: Mehedi Hasan comes on to bowl for the first time today. Mustafizur from the other end.

1115 hrs IST: Over a 100 overs bowled and just as that happens, Chandimal with possibly his first reason to feel nervous in this Test. Mustafizur has Chandimal going for a drive with the ball full and outside off. There’s noise of bat hitting the turf but not of an edge behind. The original decision of out has been overturned.

1046 hrs IST: HUNDRED! Chandimal brings up his century and a very well played knock. Gets his 8th Test ton and somewhat luckily to go over the line. Gets a leading edge and finds the gap between cover and point.

1034 hrs IST: GONE! Rangana Herath departs to Shakib Al Hasan. Soumya Sarkar holds on after a couple of juggles in the slips region. Bowled full and outside off, the ball moves away just a touch. Herath tries to drive but gets a thick edge in the process and is taken by Sarkar in the process. Sri Lanka are 250/8.

1019 hrs IST: Sri Lanka have begun Day 2 on a positive note without playing any dangerous shots. Dinesh Chandimal is on to 88 and Rangana Herath is on 23. Bangladesh have begun their task of getting Lanka all out with Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan.
