Tillakaratne Dilshan’s final international game ended with a loss for Sri Lanka but with a wicket for him. Australia faltered from 93/0 in their chase of 129 to stand 120/6 with Sri Lankan bowling coming out on top with number of balls dwindling. But, in the end, the target wasn’t enough and Australia had enough firepower up their sleeve to come out as winners in the contest. The four wicket victory ensures Australia pick up the series win by a 2-0 margin.

vinaysiwach September 9, 20166:44 pm

Australia registered the highest T20 score with a score of 263 to break the record of 260 runs held by Sri Lanka since 2007. Lanka, incidentally, were on the receiving end of the mauling at Pallekele with Glenn Maxwell dismantling the Sri Lankan attack to all parts of the park and remaining unbeaten on 145 at the end. The Tigers had scored 260 against Kenya at Johannesburg. This comes a week after West Indies also came within touching distance of breaking the record but fell short in the final stages of the match to post 245 against Indies in the first T20I in Florida.

In the process, Australia also improved on their highest T20 score of 248 against England in 2013 at Southampton.

Maxwell and Travis Head (45) put together 109 runs for the third wicket to leave Sri Lanka with little room to breathe and barring Dhananjaya de Silva, all other bowlers went for more than 10 runs an over. Kasun Rajitha bore the worst of the mauling as he went for 46 runs in three overs at an economy rate of 15.33.
