South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in a dead rubber in Delhi. Needing 121 to win, South Africa got to their target with more than two overs to spare and plenty of firepower still left. Hashim Amla remained unbeaten at 56 while Aaron Phangiso delivered with the ball (4-0-26-2).
AS IT HAPPENED:
2230 hrs IST: Another six by AB de Villiers. This was in the hitting zone and you won’t see AB missing that. Goes sailing into the crowd and South Africa win by 8 wickets.
2222 hrs IST: SIX! That’s money’s worth for the 17,000 at Kotla then.
2219 hrs IST: Amla gets his FIFTY from 47 balls. Barring that one difficult chance for Vandersay, Amla has not been perturbed in this inning.
2217 hrs IST: Amla moves across the off-stump and pulls it along for a SIX!
2213 hrs IST: Vandersay offers Amla width and he capitalises on it with a FOUR!
2211 hrs IST: Building phase from now for Sri Lanka.

SLC can take stock and decide which way they want to go in the feature. I hope I am not artificial and it’s not a PR skill. 😳

You worry for Sri Lanka. Their best batsman and bowler have been Dilshan and Herath. Have to build around Mathews and, maybe, Chameera.

2207 hrs IST: OUT! Faf is caught LBW as he tries to play a scoop. Lakmal gets the wicket. South Africa are 75/2. Replay shows there was an inside edge on to the pads. Faf looked disappointed.
2201 hrs IST: Loud chants of ‘AB, AB, AB’ but the way things are progressing, the Delhi crowd might not get to see him. 51 needed from 48 balls.
2156 hrs IST: Thirimanne has pulled a hamstring in the field. As he went down to gather the ball, he pulled up. He needs the support of the staff to be carried off the field. Can’t even hobble it off.
2151 hrs IST: Faf adds more boundaries to his total. Both coming on to the leg side and both smashed to the ropes.
2148 hrs IST: Faf sweeps and he sweeps it sweetly to beat the fielder in the deep. FOUR!
2140 hrs IST: South Africa aren’t going all guns blazing in the Powerplay but they don’t need to, do they? 34 runs from the first six overs.
2133 hrs IST: Drop? Harsh to say so. Vandersay leaped but it was not comfortable height and it was travelling quickly off Amla’s bat.
2131 hrs IST: Amla stays undeterred after losing his opening partner. Plays it off the pads and it travels quickly to the boundary.
2124 hrs IST: RUN OUT! Quinton de Kock comes way out of the non-striker’s end and Dilshan hits the wickets. GONE! 15/1.
2123 hrs IST: Lakmal keeps it wide and swings out but Amla stays firm and slashes it for a four.
2120 hrs IST: Good start to the chase for South Africa. First over two boundaries and 9 runs.
2057 hrs IST: Next ball and run out. Sri Lanka are bundled out for 120.
2055 hrs IST: Vandersay plays it on and Abbott strikes. Sri Lanka are 120/9.
2051 hrs IST: Shanaka plays it off his pads and it finds the empty area of the field. FOUR!
2047 hrs IST: There’s a first slip in place in the 18th over. How rarely (if ever?) do you see that in T20Is?
2045 hrs IST: There are smiles in the South African camp while another Lankan wicket falls. Herath concedes an edge off Kyle Abbott and it is taken with ease by De Kock.
2042 hrs IST: Lots of love for AB in Delhi
— ICC (@ICC) March 28, 2016
2041 hrs IST: SIX! Sri Lanka cross the 100-run barrier with a six by Shanaka. Goes straight over the bowler’s head for a flat six.
2036 hrs IST: That hitting was rather short lived. Perera hits it straight to Behardien at cover and Steyn punches the air in celebration. Lanka are disintegrating at at 96/7.
2031 hrs IST: Well that’s much more like it. Steyn runs up and Perera thumps him back over for a one-bounce four.
2028 hrs IST: Oh dear! Kapugedera is bowled by Imran Tahir and Sri Lanka are falling apart. Fails to read the googly and gets beaten all hands up. Sri Lanka are 85/6.
2024 hrs IST: Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse for Sri Lanka, Dilshan departs. Tried to play a reverse sweep to Behardien, caught lbw but was going wide. Next ball, he tries a sweep and it hits him fuller and straight on. GONE! Sri Lanka in tatters at 85/5.
2019 hrs IST: Raining wickets at Feroz Shah Kotla
— ICC (@ICC) March 28, 2016
2015 hrs IST: Things going south for Sri Lanka! Jayasuriya hands a sitter to Faf at cover. Sri Lanka are 78/4.
2011 hrs IST: Dilshan says yes, reaches quarter of the pitch and then sends Siriwardana back. But it has gone to Faf and the throw is at the right end. De Kock removes the bails. Run out. Sri Lanka are 75/3.
2009 hrs IST: Desperate dive by Miller at the boundary but he can’t prevent a four.
2006 hrs IST: Is that the dew? Two consecutive full tosses by Imran Tahir. The second one is over the waist and no-ball. FREE HIT! Dilshan makes the most of the free hit to hit it for a four.
1955 hrs IST: Imran Tahir finishes the powerplay for South Africa. Sri Lanka are 47/2
1952 hrs IST: WICKET! Phangiso again! Thirimanne bowled. Two in two. Sri Lanka 45/2 after 5 overs
1950 hrs IST: WICKET! Phangiso has castled Chandimal. Spin there
1942 hrs IST: Kyle Abbott back into the attack for South Africa
1941 hrs IST: And he then dances down the pitch and clears the in-field for a four
1940 hrs IST: SIX! Chandimal pulls a short one from Steyn for a six over fine-leg
1939 hrs IST: Dale Steyn is finding it difficult out there. Chandimal looking to attack him
1933 hrs IST: After four dot balls, Steyn bowls on the legs of Chandimal and he flicks it for a four
1930 hrs IST: Dale Steyn will bowl the first over for South Africa. Dinesh Chandimal on strike
1927 hrs IST: National Anthems are done. Now time for live action. South Africa are bowling first
1920 hrs IST: Both teams are out in the middle for the National Anthems
1900 hrs IST: Faf du Plessis for South Africa and Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal are ready for the toss
1851 hrs IST: Though noting much to care about the result of the match, crowd here for the fireworks of the cricketers
Decent crowd at Kotla for what is an inconsequential match between Sri Lanka and South Africa. Most here for AB De pic.twitter.com/M58VEJcmOJ

1850 hrs IST: Toss time in Kotla in 10 minutes
1801 hrs IST: Both teams may have bowed out of the World T20 but expect an exciting clash
1800 hrs IST: One hour to go for the toss between South Africa and Sri Lanka in New Delhi
ADDRESSING the press after his side’s heart-wrenching loss to New Zealand in the pulsating semifinals of the 2015 World Cup in Auckland, South Africa captain AB De Villiers looked sullen.
Tired of explaining their long- standing jinx at ICC events, a desperate Hashim Amla on Sunday said South Africa will surely grab an ICC trophy soon and next year’s Champions Trophy could be that tournament.
The present may not be perfect for Sri Lanka owing to the exit of stalwarts like Kumar Sangakkara but the team will come back stronger in a few years’ time, young leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay said on Sunday.
