With rain playing havoc once again in Dharamsala, it looked like another match set to be washed out but for the heavens relenting and ground staff doing a fantastic job. The game was reduced six overs and Dockrell ensured Netherlands couldn’t impose a high score and stopped them at 59. In response, Ireland started off beautifully to reach 28 after 2 overs. But then they lost the plot with Meekeren picking up four-wickets and the Dutch winning by 12 runs.

SCORECARD, STATISTICS AND COMMENTARY

AS IT HAPPENED:

# Man of the match: Paul van Meekeren for a splendid spell of bowling. Figures: 2-0-11-4. Lauds the ground staff for getting the game going at all. Classy stuff!

# From 28/1 after 2 overs, Ireland close at 47/7 from 6 overs. That’s 19 runs in 24 balls and six wickets lost.

# That’s just a single. And Netherlands win by 12 runs.

# DRAMA! NO-BALL AND FREE HIT! Or is it too late?

# Single and 15 required from last ball.

# WICKET! Dockrell did well with the ball but can’t replicate it with the bat. Golden duck as he gets bowled.

# WICKET! Sorensen tries to hook it but misses it completely and has the leg stump tumbled. Ireland need 16 from 3 balls. Sixes needed now…

# Another two runs. 16 required from 4. Need a boundary…

# Two runs from the first ball.

# Meekeren with the ball for final over.

# Beautiful end to a great bowler. No run and Ireland need 20 runs from the final over.

# Lovely bowling. Another ball down the centre and it’s low disallowing batsman to free arms. Another single.

# Repeat of sorts of the first ball. He again stops runs but this time with his shin. That’s got to hurt. Batsmen come back for two. 21 required from 8.

# Good work by Bukhari. Bowled right in the block goal and it’s produced a single. 23 required from 9.

# Clever bowling. O’Brien trues to slog but misses completely.

# Super fielding by Bukhari to prevent runs with his foot.

# Another excellent over. Two wickets, three runs and Ireland are treading nervously at 35/5 after 4 overs.

# Four wickets lost by Ireland in 8 balls.

# OUT! Like last over, another two-in-two. Poynter skies it and it is taken with much ease.

# OUT! Van der Merwe strikes on his second ball. Wilson tries to play a reverse sweep but hands a simple catch to Gugten at the short third man. Ireland are 33/4. Require 27 from 16 balls.

# FOUR! Much needed boundary for the Irish. Could have been a maiden-two-wicket-over but for a boundary on the last delivery. Ireland are 32/3. Need 28 from 3 overs. Will they do it?

# OUT! Two-in-two for Meekeren and it’s the big fish. Stirling goes back. Ireland are 28/3 and this looks like being taken away from them. Is it?

# BEAUTIFULLY TAKEN! Add one more to the list of spectacular catches already in the tournament. Seelaar dives full length to take a low catch and sends Kevin O’Brien packing. His celebrations rather underwhelming. Imran Tahir could teach him a thing or two?

# SIX! Stirling with yet another huge hit. Scooped over the fine-leg boundary and the crowd applauds. Ireland are 28/1 after two overs.

# WICKET! Good comeback by Gugtem to send Porterfield back. The captain tried to swing it hard but didn’t time it properly. Mid-on takes it comfortably.

# SIX! Stirling with a massive hit as Gugten starts his over.

# And a good start it is. First ball four and third ball four byes. 10 runs from the first over. That’s bang on as per the math of runs required per over.

# Ireland begin their chase.

# Another RUN OUT! Get a single from the last delivery. Netherlands score 59/5. Target of 60.

# RUN OUT! Myburgh goes back after clever thinking by Rankin to hit the stumps under arm than go over the top.

# Myburgh goes over extra cover for another boundary. He’s now scored 27 from 17 balls with five boundaries.

# Okay last over by Rankin. FOUR! Myburgh starts the final over with a boundary.

# FOUR! Borren steps aside ever so slightly to end the fifth over with a boundary. Netherlands are 50/3.

# Good bowling by Dockrell. His figures of 2-0-7-3 could make all the difference at the end.

# FOUR! New man Borren starts off with a boundary.

# STUMPED! Dockrell picks up the third wicket! Barresi departs.

# FOUR! And now four byes. Myburgh goes for another big shot but misses it completely. As does the keeper. Races off to the boundary.

# FOUR! Myburgh goes on one knee to pull the spinner for a four.

# SIX! Baresi steps out of his crease to hit Myburgh for a massive six.

# DROP! Ball traveled straight to Stirling near the boundary but he let it creep underneath him. Sorry fielding.

# CAUGHT! Van der Merwe tries to go against the line but gives a leading edge to Murtagh. Netherlands are 12/2.

# OUT! Tom Cooper tries to play a reverse sweep and misses. Next ball he hits straight to the fielder. Taken with ease. Netherlands lose an early wicket. 10/1.

# As does the fifth. Steps aside to create room and slaps a slower delivery for a four. Inches from a six.

# But fourth ball produces a boundary.

# Good start by Murtagh. 3 dot balls as Myburgh tries to whip short balls on to the leg side.

# And we’re a go!

# So 6 overs a side, first two overs are Power Play and 2 overs per over. We’re ready!

# Something is better than nothing, right?

# Good news! (for now at least). Rain is gone, covers are off and the match is scheduled to start at 5.40 PM. Caveat being it has been reduced to 6-overs a side.

# Meanwhile, Netherlands keep themselves busy with a game of head tennis. They’re quite good!

# Inspection by the umpires at 5.15 IST. The latest this game can start off is 5.52 PM for a five-over game.

# Most definitely!

# Covers of….. and covers on.

# Spot on!

# Sat out on Friday and again today. Rain, rain, go away!

# As things stand:

# Familiar sight at Dharamsala now. Covers come on as rain appears.

# Teams:

# Head-to-head

# TOSS: Ireland win the toss and have opted to bowl first.

# For Ireland, it was a horrid start as they were on the receiving end of a shocker to lose to Oman and then insistent rain foiled all hopes of making the Super 10’s.
