After being on leather hunt for more than day and a half, India manage to bundle out England for 537 in the first innings of the first Test in Rajkot. For the visitors, it was another day of runs and tons as Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali hit hundreds and swelled the total to a formidable 537. For India, Ravindra Jadeja was the leading wicket-taker with figures of 3/86. India openers Gautam Gambhir and Murali Vijay then came up with some excellent batting performance to take India to 63/0 at stumps. India still trail England by 474 runs when play resumes on Day 3 in Rajkot on Friday.

vinaysiwach November 10, 20164:40 pm

That will be stumps on Day 2 India end at 63/0. Excellent job from the openers Murali Vijay and Gautam Gambhir in reply to England 537. India still trail by 474 runs

vinaysiwach November 10, 20164:36 pm

Last of the day coming up as Adil Rashid bowls to Gautam Gambhir. India have been exceptional in batting. But then this Rajkot pitch is not bad at all for batting

vinaysiwach November 10, 20164:35 pm

22 overs gone and India are 60 for no loss. This has to be one of the better starts for India by the opening pair. Excellent batting from Gambhir and Vijay with no risks taken

vinaysiwach November 10, 20164:30 pm

Only single run off the Ansari over. India 54/0. England replace Chris Woakes with Adil Rashid. They are searching for the one wicket before close of play

vinaysiwach November 10, 20164:25 pm

Another tight over from Chris Woakes as Murali Vijay keeps a solid bat upfront. Now India moves on to 53/0. Zafar Ansari to continue. Gambhir on strike

vinaysiwach November 10, 20164:21 pm

One run from the Zafar Ansari over. His action is a difficult one to pick. India move on to 51. This is a good stand between Gambhir and Vijay after India spent some long days fielding

vinaysiwach November 10, 20164:19 pm

Zafar Ansari, left-arm spinner, brought into the attack by England. He will be bowling his first over this Test. Murali Vijay on strike

vinaysiwach November 10, 20164:11 pm

India reach 50 for no loss after 16 overs. Solid stuff from Vijay and Gambhir apart from the occasional misses. Seven more overs left in the day’s play. India trail England by 487 runs

vinaysiwach November 10, 20164:03 pm

Over number 14 ends in the India innings. India are 49 for no loss. Chris Woakes to continue for England and Murali Vijay will be on strike for India

vinaysiwach November 10, 20163:59 pm

Moeen Ali continues and it keeps turning for him! Classic off-spin from him. Tossed up and it bounces on the seam to turn into Vijay. Goes between bat and pad. Keeper misses it too

vinaysiwach November 10, 20163:57 pm

India have fielded more than one-and-a-half day. The players are seemingly very tire. Stokes, after that 128-run innings, is tired. He is currently in the dressing room. India 44/0 after 13 overs

vinaysiwach November 10, 20163:54 pm

India move on to 40 for no loss after 12 overs. England continuing with pace from one end and spin from the other. Gambhir and Vijay in no hurry. England continue with Woakes

vinaysiwach November 10, 20163:48 pm

Just the two runs off the 11th over and India move on to 37 for no loss. Umpires call for drinks. It has been a hot afternoon in Rajkot

vinaysiwach November 10, 20163:43 pm

10 overs gone in India innings and they have reached 35 for no loss. Murali Vijay batting on 19* while Gambhir is batting on 11*

vinaysiwach November 10, 20163:41 pm

Gambhir takes a couple off Moeen Ali, who had two maiden overs before this. Moeen is bowling some quick deliveries through the air. All deliveries over 90 kmph

Sahil Malhotra November 10, 20163:34 pm

Gambhir goes for the expansive cover-drive, misses the turning Moeen delivery beats the fielder at first slip and goes through for four-byes. India 21/0 after eight overs

Sahil Malhotra November 10, 20163:24 pm

Early spin as England introduce Moeen Ali in the sixth over of the innings. India 17/0 after five. Spin will play a big role in the entire series, and Rajkot will be no exception

Sahil Malhotra November 10, 20163:19 pm

The way the pitch has behaved on the first two days, it promises to be a run-feast. India batsmen would enjoy batting on this surface and it is expected to be a hard day under the sun for the Englishmen

Sahil Malhotra November 10, 20163:15 pm

Room on offer and Gambhir cuts it behind square for another boundary. India move to 15/0 in the fourth over of the innings

Sahil Malhotra November 10, 20163:11 pm

Both Vijay and Gambhir have hit a boundary each and are looking good in the middle. There is decent carry for the English seamers but very little signs of movement in the air, and off the pitch

Sahil Malhotra November 10, 20163:04 pm

Chris Woakes to bowl from the other end. He will bowl to Gautam Gambhir. The left-hander is in good touch after his 147 in the Ranji Trophy for Delhi. Important knock this for him, and could well help him extend his international career

vinaysiwach November 10, 20162:58 pm

India openers Murali Vijay and Gautam Gambhir are out in the middle. Stuart Broad to commence proceedings with the ball for the visitors. The hosts need a solid start in reply to 537 on Day 2

vinaysiwach November 10, 20162:41 pm

And that will be Tea as will. India will come out to bat in the last session of the day. Gautam Gambhir and Murali Vijay, who have fielded for five sessions, will have to do a lot of work

vinaysiwach November 10, 20162:35 pm

WICKET! Zafar Ansari LBW b Amit Mishra

Ansari tries to sweep but struck on the pads. Umpires gives him out but Ansari reviews. All three end and Ansari has to go for 32. England bowled out for 537

vinaysiwach November 10, 20162:21 pm

Play has been extended by 30 minutes as England are nine down. If India pick a wicket, Tea will be taken immediately. If England bat for 20 more minutes, Tea will be taken then

vinaysiwach November 10, 20162:19 pm

England end over number 155 at 522 for the loss of nine wickets. Stuart Broad and Zafar Ansari at the crease. Tea is round the corner. Can India bowl them out before Tea?

vinaysiwach November 10, 20162:08 pm

WICKET! Ben Stokes c Wriddhiman Saha b Umesh Yadav 128

A wicket for Umesh Yadav as Ben Stokes is caught down the leg-side. He tried to just tickle it down the leg-side but edges it

vinaysiwach November 10, 20161:56 pm

50-run stand between Zafar Ansari and Ben Stokes for the ninth wicket for England. Excellent batting from number 10 Zafar of England . He opens for Surrey in county cricket

vinaysiwach November 10, 20161:49 pm

England are 510/8 after 149 overs. Stokes and Zafar Ansari killing some time here. Tea is still 20 minutes away. Clearly, Indian bowlers need a break

vinaysiwach November 10, 20161:42 pm

Do you guys agree?

vinaysiwach November 10, 20161:20 pm

England reach 500 in over number 143. Ben Stokes has been the catalyst in this innings. Mind you, England have never lost a Test against India when they have score 450 or more

vinaysiwach November 10, 20161:13 pm

And again! That is fourth leading edge off Ben Stokes bat but all have fallen in no man’s land. Sheer luck there. England continue to move on

vinaysiwach November 10, 20161:11 pm

ALMOST! Ben Stokes connects and goes big. He almost gets it over the ropes but Murali Vijay takes the catch. But… he cannot balance! Touches the ropes before he flicks it in

vinaysiwach November 10, 201612:56 pm

HUNDRED! Ben Stokes scores his 4th Test century. 1st against India

An excellent innings from Ben Stokes! He brings up his 1st century in India with a boundary through point region

vinaysiwach November 10, 201612:55 pm

Ben Stokes, currently on 99*, will be on strike. He had scores of 0, 0, 0 against India before this innings

vinaysiwach November 10, 201612:53 pm

Ben Stokes tries a big shot against Ashwin and gets an edge. Falls in no man’s land. Stokes takes a single and moves on to 98. And he has a smile on his

vinaysiwach November 10, 201612:51 pm

India continue to leak runs at a quick pace! Ben Stokes moves on to 97 and Zafar Ansari is with him at the other end. England have scored at a brisk rate of over 3.5 runs per over this innings

vinaysiwach November 10, 201612:47 pm

Zafar Ansari has joined Ben Stokes in the middle. England are eight down now. Zafar hails from Pakistan and here is his story – Cambridge first and concert pianist, 24-year-old Zafar Ansari also plays cricket for England

vinaysiwach November 10, 201612:38 pm

WICKET! Adil Rashid c Umesh Yadav b Ravindra Jadeja 5

Adil Rashid trying to work it on the leg-side but it takes the leading edge. It was going over Umesh Yadav at mid-on before he leaps in the air to catch it. Jadeja gets his third

vinaysiwach November 10, 201612:32 pm

CLOSE! Ben Stokes top edges a Jadeja delivery and it goes high in the sky. Kohli calls for it. He has to run backwards from short mid-wicket position towards long-on. Falls far from him. Murali Vijay was running in from the long-on position could have been a better option. Stokes into 90s

vinaysiwach November 10, 201612:23 pm

Adil Rashid has joined Ben Stokes in the middle. Ben Stokes is approaching his ton. England have three wickets left. can India keep them under 500?

England 453/7

vinaysiwach November 10, 201612:16 pm

WICKET! Chris Woakes c Wriddhiman Saha b Ravindra Jadeja 4

Jadeja strikes after Lunch. That was lame from Woakes as he was in two minds. Undecided to whether leave it or play it. He edges it to the keeper

vinaysiwach November 10, 201611:38 am

That will be Lunch on Day 2. England reach 450/6 and Ben Stokes should be credited for that. He is unbeaten on 84 and Chris Woakes is with him on the other end. India will ruing the chances they have misses, especially the drop catches. Virat Kohli and his men need to rework

vinaysiwach November 10, 201611:32 am

England reach 450 in the 123rd over. Ben Stokes is nearing a hundred. Chris Woakes his partner at the other end. Excellent session for England this

vinaysiwach November 10, 201611:25 am

WICKET! Jonny Bairstow c Wriddhiman Saha b Mohammed Shami 46

A shot away from the body from Bairstow and he is caught behind. Wriddhiman Saha doesn’t make a mistake this time. It sung a little away from the batsman. Shami gets the wicket

vinaysiwach November 10, 201611:17 am

Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow punishing the Indian spinners. Flurry of boundaries. England move to 440 for the loss of 5 wickets

vinaysiwach November 10, 201611:00 am

ANOTHER DROP! This has to be some hoodoo. Wriddhiman Saha has put another one down. Almost an action replay. Stokes slashes away from the body. Saha has to dive to the left to take this regulation catch but it slips out of his gloves. Virat Kohli is in disbelief. England 407/5

vinaysiwach November 10, 201610:55 am

DROPPED! Wriddhiman Saha drops a catch off Ben Stokes. A sharp chance but it was manageable. How costly will it be. England are past 400 now. Stokes and Bairstow at the crease

vinaysiwach November 10, 201610:44 am

Bairstow accepts the tossed up delivery from Mishra and sends it over mid-on for a six. First ball of the over and attack is the key for them

vinaysiwach November 10, 201610:40 am

Surely not this match. England reach 379/5 after 110 overs. Ashwin continues

vinaysiwach November 10, 201610:37 am

FIFTY! Ben Stokes scores a half-century off 89 balls in Rajkot

Excellent counter innings from Stokes to build the England innings. His stroke making has been top notch and he had build a good partnership with Moeen

vinaysiwach November 10, 201610:26 am

Ashwin has been ineffective so far today! No turn on this pitch and while Mishra has managed to contain the runs from the other end, no wickets will hurt India. England 363/5

vinaysiwach November 10, 201610:16 am

Amit Mishra now into the attack replacing Shami. He bowled only 10 over on day one. Ben Stokes is on strike. A slip and a wide leg-slip in place for Mishra

vinaysiwach November 10, 201610:10 am

Ben Stokes with another gorgeous looking straight drive. Doesn’t get any better. Shami has been expensive today. Stokes approaching his ton

vinaysiwach November 10, 201610:05 am

100 overs done and England are 343 for the loss of 5 wickets. Jonny Bairstow has joined Ben Stokes in the middle. He is leading the run-getters list in Test this year

vinaysiwach November 10, 201610:00 am

WICKET! Moeen Ali b Mohammed Shami 117

Whoa! What was Moeen thinking there? He leaves one alone that knocks his off-stump. Shami was coming round the wicket and one angled back, may be some swing. Moeen offers no shot

vinaysiwach November 10, 20169:57 am

Indian bowlers in Rajkot surely need some advice as Ben Stokes sends one down the ground for four!

vinaysiwach November 10, 20169:55 am

98 overs bowled in this England innings and they are 339 for the loss of four wickets. Moeen Ali in batting on 117 and Ben Stokes is batting on 29. Ashwin into the attack now. He bowled 31 overs yesterday

vinaysiwach November 10, 20169:48 am

Dean Jones has a question. Brisbane or Rajkot?

vinaysiwach November 10, 20169:44 am

Shami continues to bowl. This will be the third over of the day. India had taken the new ball at the start of play today. And Shami bowls a ferocious delivery! Wriddhiman Saha fails to take it cleanly

vinaysiwach November 10, 20169:41 am

Two missfields and two boundaries for Ben Stokes. Jadeja fails to pull one back at the ropes while Gambhir lets one go through his hands at point position. England 326/4

vinaysiwach November 10, 20169:36 am

HUNDRED! Moeen Ali scores his 4th Test hundred. First away from home

Well compiled century from Mo! He used his feet against spinners yesterday and played every shot in control. Takes a single to covers to reach his 100. Looks towards the dressing and takes the appluad

vinaysiwach November 10, 20169:33 am

Players out in the middle! Moeen Ali, who is on 99*, will be on strike and Mohammed Shami will be bowling the first over. Shami had some issues with his hamstring yestersday

vinaysiwach November 10, 20169:24 am

It indeed is a big day for Indian bowlers. They need to pick those wickets early

vinaysiwach November 10, 20169:22 am

In 10 minutes time we will have live action from Rajkot. India are yet to take the new ball that became available yesterday after 80 overs. The ball is 93 overs

vinaysiwach November 10, 20169:16 am

PITCH ON DAY 2

The pitch played sporting on day one. The pitch will more-or-less be similar. There will be bounce on this today like yesterday.

Nasser Hussain: “England bowlers liked that the pitch with that bounce and also that is reversed late in the day”

vinaysiwach November 10, 20169:03 am

Will it turn today?

vinaysiwach November 10, 20168:33 am

There are lot of stats one can bring around after only day one of the series but there are couple that stand out and one being Root being the first overseas batsman in three years to score a century in India. But there was lot more to the day than just this. There was Gibbs moment as well involving Umesh Yadav and there was a lot of talk about DRS. Here is the full recap of day one by Sandeep DwivediHundreds are back in currency (and no, we are not talking about the 100-rupee note here)

vinaysiwach November 10, 20168:28 am

Welcome to the coverage of second day of the first Test between India and England. We have had an exceptional start to the series with England dominating the first day in Rajkot. They won the toss and Cook elected to bat. Haseeb Hameed became the youngest opener for England and England had a good start before India picked up three wickets before Lunch. But Joe Root and Moeen Ali, using different strategies, made India limp. Root scored a ton while Ali is on 99*. England will resume at 311/4
