Going into the lone T20I in Manchester, England were the dominant force and expected to raid over Pakistan. And the theme looked like it would continue from the ODI series with Alex Hales and Jason Roy starting off briskly.
But once Hales (37) departed, England slowed down considerably with runs drying up and no traces of boundaries. Jos Buttler tried to provide an edge and a push but he fell by the wayside soon enough. Imad Wasim did the early damage to pick up two wickets at an economy of just 4.25 an over.
In the end, England could only manage 135 which highlighted a vast difference in form and temperament from the side that scored 444 in an ODI last week.
In reply, Pakistan were provided a pulsating start by Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif. They got the visitors off to a big 73/0 after the Powerplay and they never let go of the momentum.
Even when Sharjeel fell for 59, Latif kept up the charge to bring up the victory alongside Babar Azam. In the end, Pakistan won by 9 wickets with 31 balls to spare.
