England were 82/6 in the 18th over chasing 287 for the win with almost the entire batting order in the pavillion – bar Jos Buttler. And did he make himself count in the first ODI at Trent Bridge. The middle-order batsman finished on 93 from 99 balls and got perfect help from the other end by Chris Woakes. Woakes in the end stayed unbeaten on 95 with a six to tie things on the final ball.

0153 hrs IST: Willey exits for England. Leading edge is taken at deep extra cover. Trouble brewing once again for England.

0138 hrs IST: Butler departs after a resilient 93-run knock from 99 balls. And it needed Shanaka to field beautifully at long-on boundary to stay inside the ropes.

0114 hrs IST: Fifty for Woakes and a very timely one at that!

0107 hrs IST: Eng need 100 from 13.3 overs as Buttler (76*), Woakes (46*) continue to build

0032 hrs IST: Buttler belts it straight down over the long-off boundary for a huge six! England are 136/6 with 21 overs remaining.

2330 hrs IST: Morgan keeping England ticking. Four in the 13th over gets the hosts past the 50-run mark.

2048 hrs IST: That single marks the 200th run for Sri Lanka in this match

2041 hrs IST: WICKET! Just when we were talking about his ability to bat long, Tharanga has been undone by Plunkett. Sri Lanka 197/6

2015 hrs IST: FOUR! It’s good to see that boundaries are flowing at constant rate

2009 hrs IST: And the pressure is back on the skipper’s shoulders. This has been a problem for Sri Lanka batsmen. They start off well but soon lose the plot. Now we have to wait and see what the remaining batsmen can do for themselves

1906 hrs IST: Skipper Angelo Mathews is out at the center. He wouldn’t have thought that he would be on the pitch so early in the innings

1905 hrs IST: WICKET! It’s Chris Woakes into the action as another one bites the dust for Sri Lanka. Kusal Mendis will take a walk back to the pavilion. Sri Lanka 56/3

1843 hrs IST: Kusal Mendis is the next man in

1840 hrs IST: FOUR! Gunathilaka takes the charge this time.

1836 hrs IST: FOUR! Another one, a dot delivery followed by a boundary

1835 hrs IST: FOUR! Back to back boundaries from Perera. Suddenly, the batsman has gathered some energy

1833 hrs IST: David Willey has kept things tight. Four runs from that over.

1828 hrs IST: After first Sri Lanka are 4/0

1827 hrs IST: Gunathilaka drives a full-length delivery for three runs

1825 hrs IST: So, first runs on the board for Sri Lanka. And with that single Perera gets off the mark

1815 hrs IST: It’s cloudy overhead at Trent Bridge. It would be interesting how Sri Lankan batsmen imply themselves.

1805 hrs IST: So, the Lankan openers need to come out hard against the English bowlers.

1801 hrs IST: So news from the middle is that England have won the toss and they have elected to field first. Morgan confirms that Finn, Chris Jordan and James Vince miss out.
