Jayalalithaa death: Sachin Tendulkar saddened by her demise

Sachin Tendulkar paid tribute to the ' Iron Lady of Tamil Nadu' after she passed away on Monday night post a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening.

Former India captain Sachin Tendulkar paid tribute to former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa who passed away on December 5th. Tendulkar, who became a Rajya Sabha member in 2012, paid his respects to ‘Amma’ and wrote “Saddened by the demise of honourable chief minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi Jayalalithaa, truly loved by all. May god give the strength to overcome this loss” on his official Twitter page.

Jayalalitha breathed her last at the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai on Monday after an uncertainty filled 75 days in hospital during which she remained extremely unwell. According to a release by the hospital, she passed away at 11:30 pm.

Other cricketers who paid tribute to the ‘Iron Lady of Tamil Nadu’ were Virender Sehwag, Mohammed Azharuddin, Mohammad Kaif, Umesh Yadav, Dinesh Kartik and Suresh Raina. ‘Amma’ to people in Tamil Nadu was laid to rest on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee too paid their tributes.

“Deeply saddened at the passing away of Selvi Jayalalithaa. Her demise has left a huge void in Indian politics. Jayalalithaa ji’s connect with citizens, concern for welfare of the poor, the women & marginalized will always be a source of inspiration,” tweets on Narendra Modi’s official page read.
