India take on New Zealand in the opening Test match of a three-match series between the two teams on Thursday at the Green Park stadium in Kanpur. While the match itself is an exciting prospect, there is a little piece of history attached to it. The match is India’s 500th Test match and with that India joins a rather exclusive club of teams that have played 500 or more Test matches that thus far included England, Australia and West Indies.
The ICC congratulated BCCI for the milestone and hailed the number of world-class players that have come from India over the years. India played its first Test match against England at Lord’s. Over the years, the Indian cricket team has risen from relative obscurity to become one of the best in the world. On the occasion, cricket experts and statisticians took to twitter to present their all time Indian Test XIs and other interesting facts.
Here are some of the tweets:
This month India will play its 500th Test and next month Pakistan will play its 400th. IND have 129 wins, PAK 128. Game on hai! #competition
