There were talks of him out of form before this Test match. The short ball was troubling him in the Mohali Test. Questions were raised over his technique. But those questions were answered and doubts were cleared by Murali Vijay in the Mumbai Test.

The India openers stroked his way to his eighth Test century and second of the series to put all doubts about his form to rest. Vijay reached his century in the first session on the third day of the fourth Test against England at the Wankhede stadium.

Resuming on the overnight score of unbeaten 70, Vijay brought up his hundred off 231 balls with eight fours and three magnificent hits over the ropes.

After the hundred in the first Test of the series in Rajkot, Vijay had scores of 20, 3, 12 and 0 in the four innings of the next two Tests in Visakhapatnam and Mohali respectively.

Virat Kohli had defended Vijay before the fourth Test saying “he is a solid batsman and has a century in the first Test.” Vijay proved his captain’s faith with a magnificent ton that helped India take control of the fourth Test. Kohli was on the non-striker’s end when Vijay scored his century. He patted him on the back after Vijay’s celebrations.

India were comfortably placed at 247 for the loss of two wickets at Lunch on day three after England scored 400 in their first innings.
