Ravichandran Ashwin uploaded an image on his Instagram account of the Indian bowling department devising their plans ahead of their match against Sri Lanka. Ashwin had sat out of India’s first match of the tournament against Pakistan.

Ashwin uploaded images in which there were Umesh Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and India’s fielding coach R Sridhar. Umesh Yadav was one of India’s star performers against Pakistan, taking three wickets for just 31 runs in the 7.4 overs he bowled. Jadeja, on the other hand, was his at usual destructive best. He took the crucial wickets of Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali and also effected the run-out of Shoaib Malik with a brilliant direct hit.

India will be looking to capitalise on their good form and the subsequent slump that Sri Lanka are enduring in ODI cricket. Unlike India, Sri Lanka had to suffer 96-run thrashing at the hands of South Africa. It was reported that captain Angelo Mathews was still not fit enough to play for the team. At the same time, stand-in captain Upul Tharanga also has been banned for two games due to Sri Lanka’s slow over-rate during the South African innings. Tharanga was also their best batsman and hence, the Sri Lankans have been dealt a double-blow even before their match with the defending champions.

For a team that are not known for their pace bowling, facing India’s fast bowlers may prove a daunting proposition for many teams in the ICC Champions Trophy. Mohammad Shami is easing himself back into the team after a long spell out due to injury but Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have proven to be lethal in the matches they have played so far.
