Ravichandran Ashwin turned 30 on September 17. The Tamil Nadu spinner made his first appearance in the international stage in a One-Day international against Sri Lanka in 2010. A year later, he made his Test debut against West Indies in which he became the seventh Indian to take a five-wicket haul on debut. His all-round capabilities were also highlighted when he scored a century in the third test played in Mumbai.
Since then, he has gone on to become an integral part of the Indian setup. Over the years, he became the fastest Indian bowler to reach the 50, 100 and 150 wicket marks in the Test format. Ashwin is set to feature for India in the upcoming series against New Zealand. He will be joined by Ravindra Jadeja and Amit Mishra in the spin department. Earlier, New Zealand coach Mike Hesson said that he is aware of the threat that the spinner could pose to his batsmen in the upcoming Test series in India. “…if you’ve got two left-handers against Ashwin at the top it’s going to be a big challenge for us,” he said.
Ashwin is also an important figure in India’s T20 setup and has 35 wickets to his name in the format. He was named the BCCI’s international cricketer of the year for the 2012-13 season and in 2014, Ashwin received the prestigious Arjuna Award.
