England rested their captain Eoin Morgan and brought in Dawid Malan. The debutant scored 78 runs to help his team beat South Africa by 19 runs and clinch the T20 international series 2-1 at Cardiff on Sunday. Malan, who has made his debut at the age of 29 and was brought up in South Africa, scored his runs off just 44 balls with 12 fours and two sixes.
England went on to score 181 for the loss of eight wickets before the bowlers restricted South Africa to 162 for seven. The Proteas never looked in the chase despite the brief period when AB de Villiers and JJ Smuts were batting together.
De Villiers scored 35 off 19 balls before being caught in the deep. South Africa were 82 for the loss of four wickets. Crane dismissed him after the South Africa captain had taken the spinner for 16 runs in three balls.
Before this, Malan began his international career with a six over square-leg off the second ball he faced. He brought up his half-century with a scoop over fine-leg.
England had earlier beaten South Africa 2-1 in the one-day international series as well. Now, the two teams will play a Test series which starts with the first Test in Lord’s from July 6.
De Villiers won’t be available for South Africa in the Test series while England will recall their star players including Ben Stokes, Joe Root and Alastair Cook.

Excellent form England’s ‘second-string’ today. Malan, Curran and Crane have all done themselves a power of good in this T20 series.

Just seen how brilliantly Dawid Malan did for England today. So happy, I’ve been saying for years he deserves a chance. New ODI opener?

Only three players have hit their first ball in International cricket for a SIX. Dawid Malan has hit the 2nd ball he faced. #ENGvSA
