The government directors in the Delhi and District Cricket Association have proposed the name of former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja for the post of coach. But there remains questions marks over his appointment with sources in the sports committee saying that Jadeja was not in their list of three support staff members for the upcoming season.
“We are not going to propose the name of Jadeja and he is not in our list of candidates for the post of coach,” the sports committee source said.
The final results of the sports committee elections was announced on Wednesday. The Vinod Tihara group has a majority of 6 to 4 and with the results out, the sports committee is set to call the shots as far as recommendations for appointment of selectors and coaches are concerned.
Incidentally, DDCA vice-president CK Khanna issued a release on Wednesday which said that a resolution of the executive committee, following the proposal of the government directors, had appointed the panel of selectors.
The selection committee for Ranji Trophy and Under-23 included the name of Jadeja, the chief coach.
The move to appoint Jadeja as the chief coach was confirmed by the DDCA president SP Bansal but he also said that it needs to be ratified.
Bansal also informed that Vinay Lamba has been appointed the chairman of senior selection committee with Rahul Sanghvi and Hari
Gidwani as its members. Nikhil Chopra will head the junior selection committee with Suresh Luthra and Sunil Valson in it.
“Over 20 directors have signed on the proposal to make Jadeja the coach. As the majority of directors have signed Jadeja is favourite to take over as coach,” Bansal said.
Government Directors in the DDCA including Lok Sabha MP Parvesh Verma, Sunil Yadav and Rajan Tewari, made the move to appoint the selection committee as the sports committee and the executive committee were in a state of limbo.
