The story so far

Favourites play sentimental favourites

Mashrafe Mortaza tried to put things in perspective, describing the World Cup quarter-final against India in Melbourne last year a bigger occasion than the Asia Cup final. “I believe as a captain, the biggest achievement was leading the team in the World Cup quarter-final at MCG. This (Asia Cup final) is certainly a very big game, but the quarter-final stands out,” he said at the pre-match press conference on Saturday. From a purely cricketing point of view, Bangladesh captain was right in his assessment.

Disgusting image of MS Dhoni’s severed head goes viral

Cricketing rivalry in the Asian sub-continent is mostly reserved for India-Pakistan matches. But in an attempt to ruffle some feathers in the India camp before the Asia Cup Final, that intent to egg their team on, certain fan(s) went too far. An image of India captain MS Dhoni’s severed head being clutched by Bangladesh bowler Taskin Ahmed started doing the rounds on social media.

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza on Saturday conceded that India are the clear favourites to lift the Asia Cup T20 cricket trophy and only the familiarity with home conditions could tilt the balance in his side’s favour in the summit clash in Mirpur on Sunday.
