In their last match against the Rajasthan Royals, which they won by 16 runs, the Kings XI Punjab showed they are not entirely dependent on Glenn Maxwell and Sandeep Sharma, their leading-scorer and wicket-taker respectively. The performances of Rishi Dhawan, Akshar Patel and Karanveer Singh, who was making his debut in IPL, with the ball and the momentum provided by Virender Sehwag, Manan Vohra, Shaun Marsh and later by David Miller and skipper George Bailey, meant that KXIP cantered to their tenth victory of the season, thus equalling their best-ever performance in IPL.
Earlier on Friday, the Delhi Daredevils lost to Mumbai Indians and provided a lifeline to the defending champions.
When these two sides, KXIP and DD, who are at opposite ends of the table meet at PCA Stadium on Sunday, one thing is sure: The result will have little impact on their respective positions. While the home team will finish first, Delhi will stay at the bottom of the heap for the second consecutive season.
However, Punjab would like to carry on the momentum in to the playoffs, while Delhi will look to salvage some pride by tripping up the best team of IPL 7.
