When West Indies left-handed batsman Chris Gayle scored a double century against Zimbabwe in the Cricket World Cup 2015 in Canberra on Tuesday, Jalandhar had a unique with the record as the bat which Gayle used to make 215 runs was manufactured at Jalandhar’s ‘Spartan
Sports Industries’.
Gayle specially got 15 bats prepared from the Jalandhar based company just before the World Cup.
Amit Sharma and Kunal Sharma, the owners of Jalandhar based Spartan Sports Industries near Football Chowk confirmed that Gayle was playing with their bat against Zimbabwe and informed that they have supplied 15 bats to Gayle as per the specifications provided by him.
A visible elated Sharma said that because Gayle is a tall player, he got the bats made as per his height.
“Every player has his own specifications but mostly they (players) focus on the weight of the bat,” said Sharma adding that Gayle likes heavy bats.
Sharma also informed that their Australia based office has signed a deal with six players and they are using their bats in this World Cup.
Other players who have got made their bats from Spartan included Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni , Australia captain Michael Clarke, England captain Eoin Morgan, West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo and fast bowler Mitchell Johnson.
