A group of men allegedly opened fire at Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) member Vivek Yadav during a Ganesh immersion procession at New Modikhana Road in Pune Camp area around 10 pm Thursday.

Vivek’s brother Chetan Mahadev Yadav lodged a complaint of attempt to murder at the Lashkar police station. Police have booked 13 persons in this case under sections 307, 143, 147, 148, 149 of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Arms Act.

The people mentioned in the complaint are Vishnu alias Bablya, Deepak, Mohan, Ashish, Sagar, Rahul, Pratik, Sachin and Nitin — all Gawlis, Kapil Savant, Ashish Bhakre, Rahul Bhise and Vishal. Police said that the Yadavs had a dispute with Bablya Gawli following a quarrel in 2014. Both sides had then registered cross complaints against each other at the Lashkar police station. Police suspect that Gawli decided to attack Vivek following this dispute. When the procession of Yadav’s Utsav Samvardhak Ganpati Mandal approached Surana electric shop on New Modikhana road, someone from the Gawli group opened fire at him, leaving him injured. Vivek was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
