Pune corporator Rekha Tingre disqualified from Pune Municipal Corporation

Kulkarni said that her disqualification was for the remaining part of the term ending in a few months and should not be applicable for her plans to contest the next civic elections.

City corporator Rekha Tingre was Friday disqualified for the remainder of her term from membership of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Tingre, elected on a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket from Nagar Road area, is accused of carrying out illegal construction on a portion of land reserved for a garden in the civic development plan.

“I have disqualified Tingre from being the corporator of PMC,” said Kunal Kumar, Municipal Commissioner, PMC. PMC election department in-charge Satish Kulkarni said he recommended Tingre’s disqualification after the city engineer department of the civic body confirmed that the illegal construction was done by her.

However, Kulkarni said that her disqualification was for the remaining part of the term ending in a few months and should not be applicable for her plans to contest the next civic elections.

The complaint against Tingre is that she allegedly used converted reserved for developing a garden into a commercial property for holding functions.
