An office-bearer of the Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati Trust received an anonymous threat letter by post on Friday afternoon. Suraj Prakash Renuse (31), treasurer of the trust, has lodged a non-cognizable offence in this case at the Vishrambaug police station.

Renuse said that he received an envelope Friday around 3 pm by post. “It carried a letter typed in English having objectionable content and threats. We have informed the police. A non-cognizable offence has been registered. Police security has been beefed around the premises of Ganesh mandal.”

The historic Ganesh mandal is named after Bhausaheb Laxman Javale, known to people as ‘Bhausaheb Rangari’. This year, the idol of Bhau Rang Ganpati, a symbol of strength and wisdom which was worshipped by revolutionaries led by Javale during the Ganesh Utsav in 1892, will be marking its 125th year.

As part of the 125th year celebrations, the temple trust is displaying the weapons that belonged to the revolutionaries associated with Javale.
