A week after he was supposed to have joined the BJP, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporator Rajesh Barate has issued a letter denying any such move. In a letter written to MNS Leader of House in PMC Kishore Shinde, Barate has stated that he has not left the party and talks about his defection were false.

Last week, two corporators from PMC— one from MNS and other from NCP—were said to have joined BJP in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Pictures of both the corporators with the CM were circulated to the media. With the civic polls just months away, such defections assume importance as the BJP is set to put up a strong show in the polls. Dinesh Dhavade was the NCP corporator who is claimed to have joined BJP. In his letter Barate stated that he had gone to meet the chief minister for some personal work. “I have been elected on an MNS ticket and I am very much with the party,” he said.
