USING THE opportunity to reach out to the masses during the biggest celebration in city, the Pune Municipal Corporation urged Ganesh mandals to create public awareness on electoral enrollment for the upcoming civic polls.
The state election commission is going to launch a special drive for electoral enrollment from September 16 to October 14. Those completing 18 years as on January 1, 2017 would be able to enroll themselves in the drive. “The exercise of voters enrollment would be used for the upcoming elections of PMC,” said Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar. The voters’ enrollment is a national duty and Ganesh mandals should contribute to it, he said.

In his appeal, the municipal commissioner urged the mandals to use the 10-day festival to reach out to eligible citizens through street plays, banners, posters, pamphlets, decoration at pandals so that maximum citizens get themselves enrolled as voters. The voters’ list prepared at the end of drive would be considered final for the PMC elections, he added. The election office would set up counters in the city for voters’ enrollment from September 16 onwards.
