An undertrial prisoner, lodged in the district jail in Muzaffarnagar, died due to fever, a prison official said Friday. As his health condition deteriorated, Anis was taken to the district hospital Thursday, where he was declared dead, Jail Superintendent Rakesh Singh said, adding the body has been sent for postmortem.
The family members accused that Anis was not provided treatment on time. Meanwhile, another inmate, identified as Arif, was taken to the hospital Thursday after his health condition turned serious, a jail official said.
Arif alleged that he was tortured by police an has been falsely implicated case of theft, the official added.
