Gurgaon Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Vinay Pratap Singh on Friday asked bankers to ensure that ATM machines in the district were attuned to dispense new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes by Monday. An elaborate discussion was held on most ATMs of national banks not being able to dispense new notes.

Bankers said Gurgaon has currency chests of six banks, in which Rs 3,212 crore can be stored, which require at least Rs 720 crore each day. At this point only Rs 76 crore is being received each day, said Singh. “The amount of money needed by Gurgaon residents is equal to that needed in seven or eight other districts. Hence, this district should get more cash than others.” he added.
