An ex-serviceman protesting against the anomalies in the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, allegedly committed suicide in New Delhi late Tuesday night. Identified as Ram Kishen Grewal, the former army jawan purportedly left a suicide note saying that he is taking his life due to the delay in meeting the demands of the army veterans. He is reported to have consumed poison in the lawns behind Jawahar Bhawan.

Police told PTI that he, along with some other ex-servicemen, was in the process of submitting a memorandum to the Defence Ministry over the issue of OROP. According to his friends, Grewal had been upset over the issue for sometime. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar is reported to have asked for details about the incident from the department of ex-servicemen welfare.

Garehwal’s son told news agency ANI that his father had called them and informed about his decision to commit suicide because the ‘government had failed’ to fulfill their demands related to OROP. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to visit the Grewal family in Haryana. He targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the suicide of an ex-serviceman here, saying both farmers and soldiers were ending their lives in his regime.

“Both farmers and soldiers are committing suicide in Modi Raj. That means the Prime Minister is lying that OROP has been implemented. Why would Ram Kishan ji have committed suicide if OROP was being implemented?” Kejriwal said on Twitter.

ONE RANK MANY PENSION been implemented. But not OROP. PM and DM could have solved with OROP, but they listen too much Bureaucrat These Bureaucrats got everything from 7th PC, but it is not yet given to Arm Forces. All are doing politics, instead of doing it timely. People never forgets good works, it remains their heart.

This OROP is aready been implemented, dont know why he committed a suicide even though DM Manohar Parikar told the few anamolies will get sorted out asap. It seems people are getting impatient and too much expectations from this Govt. We dont deserve good governance and we are bound to rule by Congress who did nothing except looting India.

Armed Forces do not care to compare Congress and BJP. Most of the the reduction after winning 1971 war was done by IAS Babus and it was unjustified as they increased everything for themselves. The repercussions will be serious. No nation in the world does this to its Armed Forces except INDIA.

Even if the PM and DM have good intention of giving OROP the IAS and allied bureaucracy does not. They have declared war on the Armed Forces even to the extent of disobeying the PMO direction on rank equivalence. Declaring a Babu war on the Armed Forces is just fine for clerks. The Armed Forces will end the war for the Babu, that is their bread and butter and the country will suffer for it. No nation in the world equates its civil service pay, allowances, and pensions with their civil admins except INDIA and we are fighting a continuous war on Islamic terrorism.
