With two members of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), including its chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul, in police custody for allegedly running a job racket, the state government has decided to move a proposal to remove Paul as early as possible and install a new chairman in his place.
On Wednesday, a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal decided to ask the Governor to suspend the “disgraced” APSC chief, a government release said. However, it was not clear when the proposal would be moved.
Police arrested Paul on November 4. Another APSC member, Samedur Rahman, was arrested this week.
