Moving to Hyderabad in search of a livelihood turned out to be fatal for Chogaram Kaloji. A resident of Bhinmal tehsil in Jalore district of Rajasthan, the 25-year-old worked at a tea stall near Konark theatre in Dilsukhnagar.
He had gone to serve tea on Thursday evening and was critically injured in the twin blasts. Early on Friday,he succumbed to injuries at Yashoda Hospital in Malakpet. There was no one with him when he died. Hospital staff found a diary with phone numbers in his pocket and called a member of Rajasthan Samaj of Hyderabad, who got in touch with Prakash Choudhary,a businessman from his village.
Chogaram lost his father when he was very young and his mother Deli Devi is visually challenged. His brother Kapuram is apparently mentally unstable but works on a farm.
With very little income from farming, and the burden of taking care of his mother and brother on him,Chogaram left his village three months ago and came to Hyderabad to work with the tea stall owner who is also from Bhinmal tehsil. Through friends and contacts in Jalore district,he found work at the tea stall and had come recently to work in Dilsukhnagar. He was living with other migrant workers like him near by, said Prakash Choudhary. The owner of the tea stall,Shantilal, says that Chogaram had gone towards Konark theatre a few moments before the blast to give cups of tea to people who were waiting there. After the blast,he did not know what happened to Chogaram and located him at Yashoda Hospital late night.
A bulletin issued by the hospital Thursday night had listed him as critically injured. He suffered critical injuries in the abdomen and chest and lost a lot of blood. He died this morning. I dont know what to say to his family, Choudhary said.
When Yashoda Hospital apparently demanded Rs 600 from the tea stall owner to take Chogarams body in an ambulance for post mortem to Osmania hospital, members of the Rajasthan Samaj appealed to the state government. We received a message from the chief ministers office that the government will take care of the expenses. It is also arranging to airlift the body to Jaipur, Choudhary said.
