While the opposition turned the heat on the government on the issue of killing of five Indian soldiers,CPM leader Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday indicated there could be more trouble for the government on the decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retail.

A statutory motion moved by Yechury seeking rejection of the amendments made by the government in the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) rules to allow 51 per cent FDI in multi-brand retail sector is still pending and has to be taken up for consideration in this session.

“If all those (parties) who joined us on the streets to protest the allowing of FDI in multi-brand retail trade vote with us in the Upper House, then the government is in a minority,” he said.

The motion, which seeks to amend the FEMA notification, was accepted by RS Chairman Hamid Ansari during the Budget session.
