Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday assured a delegation of the Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State (JACAS),who are demanding statehood for Karbi Anglong,an arrangement of tripartite discussions with the Centre. Gogoi,who left for New Delhi on Monday,also told the JACAS delegation that he would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and apprise them of their demand.

“The CM told the delegation that he was optimistic that the Centre would agree to hold talks with the agitating group,” a note from the chief minister’s office said.

Organisations under the JACAS have been protesting for a separate state comprising Karbi Anglong.
