TAKING a dig at the ruling Congress’ assertion that its two power centre system was an “ideal” model, the BJP asked whether it was an acknowledgment that Sonia Gandhi’s famed sacrifice of prime ministership was mere eyewash and sought to know from Manmohan Singh which between him and Sonia was the “real” power centre.

“People thought Sonia Gandhi made a sacrifice but it is now being acknowledged that she is actually the power centre,” BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.

The two power centre model,Hussain said, has led to “indecision” at the Centre. “While the prime minister has to be accountable, the second power centre has no accountability. Prime Minister himself should clarify whether 7,RCR or 10 Janpath is the real power centre.”

Hussain also targeted Singh for his remarks on economy at a function Wednesday. “He merely accepted the mistakes of mismanagement of economy but did not indicate how to correct these mistakes,” he said. “People of the country expect him not only to accept the mistakes that has led to economic slowdown but also to correct them. Prime Minister’s statement was disappointing.”

The spokesperson also took a dig at SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for voicing fears that the Congress might use CBI against him. “Socialists always had the habit to fight against the Congress but they now appear to be fearing jails. Mulayam Singh’s statement is also a reflection that even the allies do not trust the government,” he said.
