Himachal Pradesh proposes to make sweeping changes to the existing Lokayukta Act to ensure parity with the Lokpal Bill passed by Parliament. One of the proposed changes includes making the existing Lokayukta a multi-member institution with powers to take suo moto action in complaints related to corruption and misuse of public office by public servants. Sources said the Congress may dump the Bill passed by the Assembly during the BJP regime ahead of the state Assembly polls, which is awaiting Presidents assent since August 2012. It could well be a multi-member body as currently there is only one Lokayukta. I will consult my cabinet colleagues and other legal experts before proposing a draft, CM Virbhadra Singh said.
