A day after the arrest of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders Pravin Togadia and Ashok Singhal which foiled the party’s launch of ‘84 kosi parikrama’ yatra from Ayodhya,VHP and Bajrang Dal workers protested at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The workers also burnt an effigy of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. VHP workers protesting the crackdown on the yatra also clashed with police. They pelted stones and tried to break barricades prompting the police to use water cannons to disperse them. A senior police official said about 500 protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar around 12.30 pm. “Initially, the protest was peaceful but when some of them tried to break barricades and pelted stones,we had to use mild force to control them,” he said.
