2011 has not been an easy year for Union Minister Kapil Sibal. While he has gained prominence within the government,he has also had to take a lot of flak. That is probably the reason why he has turned to vaastu. More than a year after taking charge of the telecom ministry,Sibal has felt the need to re-do his office to make it vaastu-compliant. A vaastu expert recently visited his office to re-design it and the work is going on.
New on Twitter
Following the debut of the Prime Ministers Office on Twitter, the Group of Ministers (GoM) on Media is also contemplating having an account on the social networking site. Many other departments and ministries are eager to communicate through Twitter, but that is done mainly through officials. The dilemma before the GoM on Media, however,is believed to be that if the ministers themselves dont tweet, the communication may not have the human touch. Meanwhile, the Press Information Bureau is going a step further and planning to upload videos and texts on YouTube.
AS the Prime Ministers Office made its debut on the micro-blogging site, one of the first congratulatory messages came from Shashi Tharoor, the former minister of state for external affairs. Tharoor, who had to quit following a controversy over his numerous tweets, wrote in a message to the PMOs account: Delighted to welcome PMs office to Twitter, two & a quarter years after he first asked me about it. Excellent initiative,way2go!
OSD to Secretary
BY getting S Vijay Kumar appointed as OSD in the Rural Development Ministry before he takes over as Secretary,Jairam Ramesh has tried to continue a trend that he set when he was the Environment Minister. At that time,Jairam had got the present Secretary,Tishyarakshit Chatterjee,to serve as OSD in the ministry two months before his tenure began,to equip himself with the affairs of the ministry. This time,Vijay Kumar will serve less than 10 days as OSD before taking over as Secretary from B K Sinha. The delay happened because Jairam is said to have wanted another officer as Secretary but that did not work out. Incidentally,P Chidambaram started this tradition when he took over as Home Minister in December 2008. G K Pillai had joined as OSD in the ministry in 2009 two months before he formally took over as Home Secretary from Madhukar Gupta. However, the trend could not be continued at the next change in the ministry last year.
KNOWN for its imposing sobriety, the Navy House wore a different look on Tuesday when the sprawling grounds were overtaken by a group of children. In a first,Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma hosted winners of the national bravery awards for children at his house, making the point that bravehearts would be welcome to join the forces. While cakes and pastries were in wide circulation, the Navy band also recorded its own first by belting out the popular number,Kolaveri Di,keeping the age of the audience in mind.
