A convention of Muslim leaders has drawn up a wish list for various political parties on the eve of the Lok Sabha polls, starting with reservation for the community on the lines of Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

Meeting under the banner of the Muslim Alpsankhyak Kalyan Ekta Manch here on Monday, they have said anyone seeking their votes would have to promise to address their concerns.

Yakub Siddiqui,a Manch spokesperson, said that apart from reservation, the community wants implementation of the Sachar Committee recommendations, constitutional status for the Uttarakhand Minorities Commission and establishment of a Minority Welfare Board. They also want an Arabic and Persian madarsa board on the lines of the one in neighbouring UP.

“We want the secular ethos of the Constitution to be maintained by political parties. Over the last 60 years, the condition of Muslims has become worse than that of Dalits,” said Siddiqui.

The Muslims want Dehradun and Nainital to be added to the list of minority-dominant districts and are also seeking ST status for Muslims residing in Chakrata as well as a White Paper on the status of properties of the Wakf Board.
