Health and Family Welfare Minister Ahmed Hasan Tuesday launched a personal attack on suspended IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal while slamming the media for highlighting her suspension.

“When I will reveal the family background of Nagpal, then you (the media) will know whom you are favouring,” he said.

Nagpal’s husband Abhishek Singh is a 2011-batch IAS officer and is at present training in Meerut. Her father-in-law,Kripa Shanker Singh,is a retired IPS officer and is from Jaunpur.

Hasan was speaking at a function to launch welfare schemes at Chief Minister’s official residence — with CM Akhilesh Yadav,Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani,Agriculture Production Commissioner Alok Ranjan, who is also president of the UP IAS Officers’ Association, and several cabinet ministers as his audience.

He said the media has made Nagpal more popular than Amitabh Bachchan. “I have read that Nagpal has become more popular than Amitabh Bachchan on the Internet. I am surprised that you (media) are glorifying a foolish SDM. I request the media to help us in this crisis,” he said.

He also said that credibility of IAS officers has gone down due to her. “A foolish SDM did not perform her duty. She claimed that the mosque was demolished by villagers. By telling a lie,the lady has degraded the dignity of IAS cadre. She has finished her credibility.”

Cautioning the media,Hasan said there were black sheep in the fraternity. “These five per cent journalists are maligning the image of all media persons. You should identify them. There is one journalist who minted money during the BSP regime and is doing this again. Media should come out from Nagpal fixation and report on various welfare schemes of our government,” he stated.

Hasan added Nagpal should seek forgiveness for her act. “I have also been an officer for 37 years but I was an honest officer. She should seek forgiveness. It is a big communal act,” he said.

Hasan had retired as DIG from police services and joined politics. Not known for such harsh statements,Hasan turned vocal over the past two days against Nagpal. Yesterday, during a meeting of party workers at Samajwadi Party (SP) office,he had attacked Nagpal in the presence of Akhilesh.

Hasan also lashed out at UP IAS officers Association, saying they had no voice during the previous Mayawati regime. “When a non-IAS officer was cabinet secretary, this association never uttered a word. They should be thankful for getting such a decent CM. IAS officers should remain within their limits and should not indulge in politics,” he said.

BJP leaders seek Guv’s intervention A BJP delegation led by party’s state president Laxmikant Bajpai Tuesday met Uttar Pradesh Governor B L Joshi and appealed him to intervene into the matter of suspension of IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal. In a memorandum given to the Governor, the BJP leaders said Nagpal’s suspension was unconstitutional because the SP government was trying to protect mining mafias and appease Muslims. The leaders pointed out contradictions in reports of Noida’s local Intelligence Unit and the statements by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and other SP leaders justifying the suspension. The leaders added political connections of the owners of vehicles seized during action Nagpal took against mining mafias should be checked.
