Having not had much luck with foreign investors, the Akhilesh Yadav government will now approach the Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) of Uttar Pradesh origin asking them to invest for the development of their ‘home’ state.

Udyog Bandhu,a unit of state’s infrastructure and industrial development department, has been asked to compile a data base of such NRIs who are affluent and can invest in UP. It will soon hire a consultant for compiling the data base. The directions to start the process came from chief secretary Jawed Usmani, who held a meeting of the infrastructure and industrial development department and the department of externally aided projects last week.
