New Delhi: Two Rajya Sabha TDP members were suspended for a day for disrupting the House with their protests against the decision to form Telangana. As soon as the House reassembled after a 15-minute adjournment following uproar over oil price hike,sloganeering TDP members C M Ramesh and Y R Chowdhary trooped into the Well holding placards. Deputy Chairman P J Kurien requested them to go back to their seats with an assurance that they would get time to speak on the issue later.

“Zero Hour is the members’ right…You are only obstructing the right of the members,” Kurien said. As Ramesh and Chowdhary did not relent,Kurien invoked Rule 255 and suspended them for a day. ENS

BJP presses for PM statement on ‘monumental’ coal scam

The BJP on Monday again demanded a statement from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Rajya Sabha on missing files pertaining to coal mines allocation saying the scam is “monumental”. Raising the issue during Zero Hour,BJP’s Prakash Javadekar said two days back the PM had said he was not the custodian of files whereas the Opposition believed “he is not only the custodian of files but also the custodian of the nation but not performing both the tasks well.” “It is a monumental scam and occurred when the PM was the coal minister… PM should give a statement on this,” Javadekar said,demanding if an FIR was lodged in the missing files issue despite the Surpeme Court asking for it. Dissatisfied with the reply,Javadekar launched a scathing attack on the government.

All steps will be taken to maintain communal peace in J&K: Farooq

National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah,whose party heads the government in Jammu and Kashmir,on Monday assured Rajya Sabha that all steps would be taken to maintain communal harmony in the state as BJP expressed concern over communal violence in Kishtwar. “Everything will be done to maintain communal harmony,” Abdullah said,noting that the state government is getting the incident inquired into by a former judge of the high court.

Opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha Monday slammed the government over the recent fuel price hike and Trinamool Congress,Samajwadi Party and the Left staged a walkout. The furore prompted an adjournment. Rajya Sabha MPs,including those from the BJP,attacked the government over the issue saying making the announcement outside the House amounted to bypassing Parliament in session. They also criticised Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily for his proposal to shut down petrol pumps at night. Accusing the government of increasing miseries of people,the parties demanded that the decision be rolled back. ENS
